Getting to Koycegiz was a bit of a logistical nightmare, (I think from Selcuk - it was three buses!!) but I got there in the end. I stayed in a guesthouse that was recommended to me from the guys I stayed with in Selcuk and it paled in comparision - but possibly because I was only one of two people staying there. The owner was a slightly strange man and he had an 'assistant' who can only be ...
Koycegiz, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey travellingjenI was really overdue my holidays, finally getting to take it in October and I just signed up to two weeks of not doing much in Turkey with a couple of friends in a group. For me though not doing much isn't my cup of tea so I took every chance to re-live my old Turkey memories, from food, sights, sea, dancing and ahem, yes the men, again :)
Please come back soon as I update all the stories from the two weeks. Thanks.
... There have been quite a few places I have been and been grateful for the big and small things I am used to - whether it be a well prepared meal, a western style toilet or even just people able to speak English. I think the problem starts when an area actively TRIES to be a tourist haven.
In this case the local shops all stop trying to be pleasant shops of whatever culture or vibe they might normally choose, but instead try ...
... goddess of rhythm, embraced me with her love.
The aftermath
As I’m observing the settling of the dust and the change in my mind I wonder what has happened here. The circumstances and outcome have not changed. The man I wanted so badly is not by my side and tonight, yet again, I will be sleeping by myself. But the “feeling space” has changed. I’m not feeling lack or lonely. I’m not sad. My breath is steadier and I feel calmer ...
... around. I got to go in first while Chris and Damien watched, but the guard was too alert for any subterfuge. It wasn't really a problem, as the baths were also a giant waste of money. I barely noticed the warm water, so busy was I dodging swirls of green goo and flaccid pink Germans. We wandered around the ancient ruins and in the early afternoon made our way to the Marmaris peninsula on the south coast.
Marmaris, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey davechrisdamo... seed encrusted honey roasted peanuts, which I will call the best snack food in Turkey. As Neil Diamond would say, they were "so good, so good." We finished the massive bag of peanuts before we even made it to Bergama...
Hospitality and friendliness go such a long way. When the guy gave me all the samples and smiled, I knew I would end up buying something. When he gave me a sample of the best peanuts ever, I knew I would buy a lot of something. I really don ...
... this in the same small coach. EVERYTHING we saw belonged to Greeks going back to the times of Alexander the Great. A very nice archeological theatre we saw was built in the year of 500 BC.
By the time the tour is over we have become friends with our tour guide whose name is Zinet. She comes from Kos but she is half Turk and half Greek, with a Greek nationality.
We ask her to recommend a nice place to eat something originally Turkish ...

Marmaris, Turkey kilpatt... 3:30 am Turkey time, and the drive from the Balaman to Marmaris is about 2 hours. By the time we got to our resort it was already time for breakfast. We didn't really sleep much that night, we were too excited to sleep the day away. We stayed in a 4 star all inclusive resort, this for me isn't really my way of traveling, but I knew that we just wanted a week of relaxing so it was good for that. It just sucks that I went to turkey, not really seeing much ...
