      Heading Home

A travel blog entry by rudd on Jul 21, 2014

Well, another long drive heading towards JFK airport, getting closer to our final destination. We had to return our rental to Jersey City so decided to stay not too far away from that, but also so that we could go to another 'Outlet' Mall. A pity we didn't know about this mall earlier as it was the best one we had been to. The many teenage girl …

... we had lunch at The Red Flame. Quite yummy. Traditional burger and fries. We were starved as we hadn't had breakfast. After lunch we went to David's Tea, Bleecker Street in Chelsea A fantastic tea shop where we got some really cool flavoured teas. Including Santas Secret, Egg Nog, Apple Custard and Bubbi's Baclava. After tea we made it to Fifth Avenue. Mardi went to Sephora (visit 2, let's keep count this time). I wandered Fifth ...

... Coney Island chilli dog - pretty good, was expecting more of a punch. The chilli cheese fries were just gluttonous and totally cancelled out my juice plus more, but can't skip quintessential food experiences! Walking through park slope was stunning with heaps of beautiful old brownstones restored, and a lot of them decked out in Halloween decorations. We walked ...

The day was partly cloudy and cool. We decided just to wander around today, mainly on foot, to enjoy whatever was happening and we found enough purely by chance to have a good day. We left the hotel at 11am and took the subway to Greenwich Village. It's a nice residential area but also has shops and restaurants. We were there a few nights ago but knew that we hadn't been in the heart of it, so we headed for Washington Square. The squares - parks - are nice in New York ...

... have been constructed are just the beginning of a much more comprehensive development to follow. The Memorial area is beautiful and there are plenty of people here paying their respects. We go into the Tribute Centre where you hear stories from various people and see footage and pictures and other related material. It is deeply moving and very very sad. The two towers housed 50,000 workers on a daily basis and approximately 150,000 people came on business every day. Each floor ...
