Munchen

I arrived in Munich a day in advance of Allison so that I could meet her in the airport the following day to head to Claudia's together. Flying Lufthansa for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised to see leather seats in coach! And I never can seem to get around how small Europe--it took but a mere hour and a half in the air to Munich. I checked into the Kempinski Airport hotel, dropped off my baggage and then took the S-bahn into Munich proper. Reflecting on the entire experience through...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Kempinski Hotel Airport Munchen Würzburg

Excellent in every way!

from nbodyhome
We were originally booked to stay at the Hotel Uhland for 3 nights - but I was getting worried about making it to the airport in time for our very early flight on June 4th - so I ended up switching two of those nights to the Munich aiport Kempinski. I am so glad I did!

The Kempinski is about a 35 minute train ride from the main train station in Munich - so it wasn't hard to get to where we wanted to. We'd stayed at several hotels in Europe prior to arriving, and had not gotten service like this anywhere. We arrived early - the room wasn't ready, but the guy checking us in called to see when it might be (and mentioned about us being the honeymoon couple), and made sure our bags were checked and would be in our room when we came back. The service was OUTSTANDING. The hotel is beautiful, and there is a supermarket, Burger King, a few restaurants and nice shopping just right inside the airport (only a few minutes from our room). The train was only maybe 5 minutes away to get into town. The location was fabulous.

What we didn't expect was an upgrade. Perhaps the hotel wasn't too busy for those nights. I had mentioned that we'd be on our honeymoon - I was hoping that would help get our king bed request. The hotel even called me after I'd faxed that information to them - which I didn't expect (especially since I couldn't get an email response from the Holiday Inn Kensington forum in London with a few questions about the hotel ahead of time).

When we'd got back from being out on the day of check-in, we received our room key - and our room was all the way down the hall - they'd given us a suite! I don't know what the normal rooms are like, but I am sure they are lovely. The suite had a sitting room with tv, a bedroom, and a HUGE bathroom (with both a tub and shower, separate). Actually, the tub also had a hand-held shower. We had bathrobes and slippers, and the room was clean and wonderful. If you can splurge, I highly recommend it! I just wish we had even more time in the room. I'd really wanted to go to the pool area - I did look, but I ran out of time while trying to get last-minute shopping done. Bring your swimsuit, though!

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this hotel. I HIGHLY recommend it if you are looking for great service, a convenient location if you are flying out of Munich, and some relaxation.

Americans- wonderful hotel for a vacation to Bavaria!!!

I have been to several places throughout and world and have found that staying near the airport is convienent if you do not speak the native language. Speaking moderate German I decided to do stay at the Kempinski after reading reviews.

After stepping off the plane I easily walked directly to the hotel via walkways. The atrium is completely made of glass and is several floors high. Light floods the lobby creating a warm ambiance. The hotel associates do speak broken English, but studying a few phrases before you go would be a good idea. I would suggest requesting a room facing the garden (west side). In the evening time you can watch the sun set and watch incoming planes land (something fun to do if you have children).

Staying at this hotel makes it wonderful for renting cars for the day. Normally most people rent the same car for several days- staying at the airport you have 4 different car rental companies which rent cars from the tiny Euro cars to luxurious, fast expensive whips.

I would suggest the hotel's restuarant on seafood night. They have a buffet (formal-dress up a little) which includes whole lobsters. I had three! : )

The airport has the subway.train which runs into the city of Munich. Great way to get around town without renting a car.

If you are going to southern Germany I would suggest staying here, taking the train into Munich daily and renting a car and driving the Autobahn to Austria and castles that dot the Bavarian landscape!

Beautiful, convenient, and down comforters to boot

Really the best thing is all rooms come with a down comforter instead of the normal hospital style sheets. Otherwise the rooms are big clean and modern, unlike most hotels they actually look like the pictures provided on the hotel website.

For convenience its at Munich Airport but you don't get bothered noise of the planes.

The lobby is amazing, entirely glass structure, with a 60ft high glass display cases full of red flowers, extremely modern.

Free internet via Ethernet connection in the Cafe but pay in your room or pay for wireless. odd...better beer in the cafe too.

Excellent stopover hotel

Very modern. Clean and comfortable.

Large bedroom overlooking the airport and a huge very well appointed and equipped bathroom.

A very good and large buffet breakfast for 25 Euros per person.

Walking distance of the two airport terminals and S-Bahn station to Munich.

Very nice staff.

Very convenient to the airport!

Recently stayed at the Kempinski Munich Airport and the great proximity to the airport makes it well worth the premium price you pay to stay there. Lovely rooms & great service. Popular place - would advise booking as far in advance as possible & if full request to be put on the waiting list. That is the only way we got in.

Excellent stay. I'll stay there again.

i booked this hotel after i had read the reviews on this website. i got a very inexpensive internet rate for 99 euro, normally the price is much higher. anyway, this is an excellent first class hotel and it is worth every penny you pay. it is just 50 meters away from the airport terminals and the shops. you can reach the city center within 45 minutes. the tram station is very close to the hotel, too. the building is very modern, lots of glass and steel and fits perfectly into the whole airport complex. the lobby is huge, has a bar which is surrounded by palms. the rooms are large and nicely furnished. you don?t feel disturb by the airport, you won?t hear any noise. the wellness area is excellent, too. there?s a pool, poolbar and jacuzzi. the sauna is a bit "basic" from what you would expect from this hotel. you can also have massage, if you want to. staff and roomservice were extraordinary nice. i ordered dinner to my room one evening and it came within ten minutes and was excellent. the breakfast had food for europeen and american taste: fish, champagne and lots of fresh fruits were my personal highlights. watch out for special evening buffets (italian, american and fish). all in all, i highly recommend this hotel and i will certainly stay there again.

Best hotel I've visited

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is one of the best hotels I've visited.....it has all the amenities one could want in a hotel: big rooms, big bathroom with shower and bath, good water pressure, in-room safe and mini bar. The facility is spotless and exquisitely decorated in post-modern style. The beds are comfortable and warm, and everything seems to have been designed with the visitor's comfort in mind. It's a perfect start or end to a stay in Munich.

Best Airport Hotel ever!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have stayed at this hotel 5 times, and I loved it every time! It is the best Airport hotel I have ever been in. The rooms are very nice and clean. The bathrooms are great. Huge bathtub! The service is above standard for Germany, or Europe in General, and the rates are not too outragious, considering the type of hotel it is. Besides, since Munich is 1 hour from the airport, it is very convenient if you have an early flight. Highly recommend this hotel!

Too Good To Be An Airport Hotel

Excellent property, just steps from the airport proper, with its shopping (including a terrific deli/convenience store. Gorgeous architecture, very nice and comfortable rooms. Top-flight bar, and very responsive staff. Beautifully set up to get you comfortably out on that morning flight.
