Day Five: St Ives & The Lizard

Everyone woke at around 530am, with Emily making us all start the day. Following all of the excitement of the previous day, Rose was quite tired and tetchy and needed a couple of breakfasts to get over it! The plan for the day was to visit St Ives. As it is such a popular destination there is a park and ride scheme, but with a difference. Rather than by the bus, transport into the town is by train, using an old branch line. ...

    Day Three: Truro

We woke up after quite a difficult night. Christine had been sick in the night and we think that she had caught the same bug that Emily was suffering from earlier in the week. This had woken Emily and Emily in turn woke up Rose, making for a very noisy night! Therefore we all felt quite tired in the morning. I took Rose out for a breakfast to allow Christine a bit of time to wake up and recover. She was feeling a ...

This tactic worked very well on our first trip, a visit to the historic harbour town of Fowey. ...

... stop for lunch, off the motorway. Near Stroud, Nailsworth and Minchinhampton where both Nick and Jono P spent their gap year, and also because one of my poor miserable ancestors was born in the workhouse there. Wish I could go back in time and share my flat white coffee and egg and cress sandwich with her. It must have been a tough place then, but it's beautiful now, with every shop in the high street displaying a huge, ...

    Resting in Lostwithiel, Cornwall

... in the model train room doing whatever model train fanciers do! By dinner time the rain had eased to 'mizzle' which is mist/drizzle, so we went to Lostwithiel village for dinner and a pint. Bangers and mash, chicken pie, many veg, apple pie with clotted cream. Great company and great atmosphere. Early bed after a busy day of total ...
