      ... very humid. The winters can be cold but with little snow. Many homes do not have central heating. Sichuan Province is famous for it's hot spicy food. Apparently the spice helps the locals deal with the cold in winter and the arthritis that goes with cold and humid. The population in Chengdu is 14 million.       ... noticed but I will stay vigilant. I don't want to be treated special. I am a visitor in this beautiful country but that doesn't mean I should have any better treatment than anyone else! I want to experience the China that the people live, and find the true roots of the Chinese culture. Maybe I don't want to live in their shoes, but I do at least want to see if I fit them...

      Monday 23rd

      This morning we had a two hour plus drive to Leshan to see a giant Buddha. He was carved out of the rock face 1200 years ago and height (seated) is 70 metres. You'll see from the photo that people climb up and around him, but we were viewing him from a boat on the river.
