A short ride to the other side of the island. I am travelling too fast as I passed by some magnificent scenery on the way here. Have decided trains are not the best way to see Japan as I feel I am passing by the best bits.

After our manic day of rushing around trying to see naruto whirlpools and Ritsurin park we finally ended up in Kotohira. We had booked to stay in a ryokan (Japanese guesthouse) which although was a bit over our budget, we had been told that we HAD to do it so we forced ourselves to endure a bit of luxury for a night.

Although a bit pricey, the ryokan actually ended up being really good value as we had a great, cosy traditional room and the bathroom had its own ...

The place is beautiful but unfortunately the people a lot less... A little disappointed with the lack of friendliness of its inhabitant however the path to reach the top shrine and its steps (apparently arduous) was fun. The view at the top was the most impressive. Seeing so many shrines, it tends to get repetitive so it's nice to have a different surrounding such as here. So just one night will do before moving on the Matsuyama and our final stop in Shikoku before ...
