After spending 4 nights in Ao Nang, which began as a bit of a gross nightmare but grew on us by the time we left, we decided to indulge a little in some luxury on Ko Lanta.
Having paid to for hotel transfers and the ferry from Krabi. We set off on a little mini bus and arrived and were dumped at another tour operator for an hour whilst they tried to sell us everything under the sun. We were due for the 11:30 ferry - which turned out to be a bus overland to ko Lanta.... Great. So we cl...
After another scary and long bus/van ride we arrived in the town of Krabi in Southern Thailand. We had our first view of the Andaman Sea which was just the right colour of blue. On the bus we had come to the decision that we would head to one of the beaches close to Krabi and start our beach holiday from there. Our choice was, of course, listed as the least expensive of the beaches and after another 40 minutes of van travel we arrived in the small town of Ao Nang. The town consists of a long ...
Ao Nang, Thailand jacquieanddaveWe had booked two tours, the first to the Islands of Phi Phi don and Phi Ley and the second, to go sea Kayaking around Talebeng Island. We woke up all set to see the famous Phi Phi Islands only to discover that our trip had been canceled due to strong winds so the speedboat wouldn't go. With some quick work we swapped our trips around and before long we were whisked off to the other side of Lanta and put on a long tail boat. We cruised through the mangroves and made a short stop to feed some ...
Ko Lanta, Thailand lekkaThe tour company told us to expect a pickup at our resort in the morning. Little did I know that the pickup would arrive on the beach and make the sound, "RRRRRRAAAAAAAAA.......BLUB.....BLUB... ....BLUB.....BLUB". I was eating a spicy breakfast gazing out to sea as normal when I saw a tasty boat coming into the bay. Nice, I thought to myself, wish I was getting on that today. As the boat powered towards our beach I couldn't believe my eyes when the guy on the back was waving at me to come on ...
Ko Phi Phi Don, Thailand lekkaOn walking into reception at Kaw Kwang Beach resort I was taken aback by the view, we w**e right on the beach with luxurious wooden sun loung**s, a massive infinity pool and a stunning view of the sea. Clearly we had arrived at the wrong place as we would nev** be able to afford this. We asked the lady on reception about our room on 'cozy hill' for 350 Baht (about 7 quid) and she said "follow me". She raced off into the complex of bungalows and took a right up some steep stairs into the fores...
Ko Lanta, Thailand lekkaHello all, after a long sabbatical from writing my blog I am back with a vengeance. I am sitting in Borneo writing this entry from 3 months ago! How slack I know. I thought I would do a short entry to describe our bizarre journey between Kuala Lumpur and the island of Ko Lanta in Thailand so here we go. We took a bus from KL Sentral (train station) to the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) which is about 70km and costs RM9 (£1.80). The LCCT is a bit of a shed really and serves mainly Air Asia f...
Ko Lanta, Thailand lekka... just a strip of bungalows on the beach. When the woman gave me the key to my bungalow, I asked her the name of the place. After an extended pause she replied, "Nice Bungalows". Although the Tsunami was over 4 years ago, the emotional scars and trauma left it its wake are still palpable. Last night as I was waiting for my dinner, the owner of the restaurant, Mr. Soda, presented me with a book of photos detailing the post-Tsunami devastation. I later found out ...

Ko Lanta, Thailand aguas... bigger boat, and they came and picked us up. They brought a few kayaks as well and me and Dips managed to bag one, so we kayaked back out of Maya Bay to the boat! Watched the sunset from the boat and got our dinner on the boat too. All in all the trip was really good. We got back about 8pm and found a bar to play some pool in for a bit, then picked up a couple of beers from the shop and sat on our balcony and played cards for a while. Day 41: Koh Phi Phi Dips was ...
Ko Phi Phi Don, Thailand sbanni... match to make up bedding for the night. Back on shore, we finished our lunch then continued our exploration of the town as the skies cleared and only the hill-tops had a fringe of cloud. Fortunately, the boat dried out quickly in the hot weather and no damage had been done to things like mobile phones which came close to being drowned! We motored back to Hat Kan Tiang for a peaceful but damp night's sleep!
