Our first stop is Nessebar, a quiet little port in Bulgaria. The seaside town is a mix of old and new. On one side of the harbor we see modern hotels and, on the other, there are remnants of buildings from the Roman period. We walk thru the older section with its quaint shops and rough cobblestone streets. It's a little warm and humid out, so we walk down and dip our feet in the cool Black Sea. We stay in town until 1:00 and then head back ...

... The staff will split the proceeds. If we had been willing to stay longer, the price may have dropped or who knows it may have increased. We cannot risk it and we pay up.

*After all the friendly Romanians we have met during our stay, this last experience leaves us with less positive feelings about the country.

*As we enter Bulgaria we make sure we buy a vignette at the first opportunity and we vow to check at every other border we cross. ...

Watching my friend get hosed down to move him on from his drunken slumber

And taking my friends on a 1 hour detour one day to try and find a pizza place i swore and hyped up was the best i had ever tried the night before, only to realise that when tasting it during the day the alcohol had contributed greatly to my opinion of the pizza...it turned out to be one of the worst we had all ever eaten!

... I think the first border guard we came to was asleep. It took us about 1.30hrs to get through with most of the discussion on the Turkish side. Officials are continually confused, not surprisingly perhaps, by the Export Plates and car registration. They clearly couldn't find the car in their system and we got passed around four guys until one who did something the others did not, and the only one could speak ...
