Singapore behind me, it was off to the tropical paradise of malaysia. Or so i thought. I hoped on a train that took me from singapore straight to malaysia's capital city KL. I got there fine, got a cab to my hostel. It was called the Pudu international hostel. Its in the middle of china town, and when i arrived it was a culture shock. At 10 oclock at night there were people everywhere. It was loud, smoggy, stinky, dirty, everyone smokes, and i loved it. Got up to my hostel, which looked dirty...
Kuala Lampur, Malaysia adam_downunderWe gladly departed Penang and took another night train down to Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur. Upon arriving in the city we promptly got lost looking for our hostel (note...never ask locals for directions) After flagging down a passing taxi we made it to the Pudu Hostel and settled into our tiny windowless room. It was only a matter of time before we ventured into the nearby China town, a vibrant area full of markets and restaurants. We headed to the popular Reggae Bar where we played pool a...
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia cocklesWe arrived in Kuala Lumpur mid-afternoon, caught the train to city central and have booked ourselves into the 'Pudu Hostel', and tonight im running around to find a bar where we can watch the mighty english rose to pummel the Welsh!
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia danthemanWe caught a 5hr bus ride back to Kuala Lumpur and are back staying in the Pudu Hostel! If you're reading this then could you please send your respect and regards to Mrs Mervynne Mitchell (aka. Granny) as Ronnie, or Grandpa to some, sadly passed away on the 14th February 2006.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia danthemanAfter breakfast and internet we sweated our way over to the bus station for our journey onwards into Malaysia. There were some very friendly folk at the bus station and we were soon on our way. We had to pile out of the bus twice for each country's border controls and then again at a fly-infested service station but the trip was pleasant enough and comparatively short. At the Melaka bus station some genuinely friendly Malays gave us their advice about hostels, transport and sights in the city...
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia ellajayWe booked ourselves onto the midday bus from the Lavendar bus terminal in Singapore to Kuala Lumpur (known as KL in South East Asia) where we intended to get a quick taste of the Malaysian capital before heading north overland to Thailand. The bus journey was great and included air con, reclining seats, loads of leg room and a boxed lunch. After getting through the border crossing relatively easy (it would have helped if they had given us an immigration card to fill in before we got there) we...
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia igandmary· J finally sets off on his travels at the end of November, spending a day in Sydney en route to KL, Malaysia. A month goes by in Malaysia pretty swiftly, with a mix of part time work (on a software project), rest and play. Spend a lot of time hanging out with Fred and crew as he organises a string of concerts for Karen Kong - his star act. Beautiful voice and inspiring performer. Despite reasonable caution, J succumbs to the enivitable stomach bug and spends 3 nights in hospital after eatin...
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia jclsHi all, reached Kuala Lumpur (KL) now. Went for a wonder, seems full of shopping centers! Our hotel has fantastic views of both the KL tower and Petronas, we went up in price slightly. In a bit of a rush at the mo as trying to look at reviews for buying cameras out here (I think ours is on its way out). Thanks for all the lovely comments, and we look forward to seeing you all and celebrating soon! xx
Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia vwfamilyFi: After spending time in the chilly Cameron Highlands, we arrived in Kuala Lumpar, which is like an oven. This entry will be very short as we only spent 1/2 a day here. We stayed in a hostel which was called the 'Pudu hostel'. The room that we had was very basic, and we had to used shared toliets/showers. It was convenient as it was just across the road from the bus station. The shopping is very good here and there is a huge variety. Warren and I had a problem trying to find our shoe sizes....

... it was close to where I was, but not walking distance close. A taxi could take me there cheaply. Perfect. I arrived at the Embassy and after first going in the wrong entrance, I finally found the "Visa Section," where I waited to talk with someone. An extremely kind lady helped me and looked over all the stuff I had prepared. I had one thing missing. I still needed to have a copy of the stamp on my passport of when I arrived in Malaysia. Great. Fortunately, they had a place here ...
Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia snclark8... and a doughnut someone else offered him. We walked around KL Tower and watched a documentary on how it was built and decided to get some ice cream. I had a black cow which was a root beer float with chocolate syrup. That was different, don't think I will get it again. They also had a cup of corn stand. I guess corn is a pretty big thing in Malaysia. We finally went up into the tower and took some pics and went back down ...
