... to have a look. It was pretty nice, set back from the road, so it was quiet. Susie got a big chunk of cake there, so she was happy. For the rest of the wander we headed back to the south east corner of the old city, and kept an eye out for some bars we could go to in the evening. We showered, then headed back out. So, when choosing a destination for our 2014 trip together, Tarryn and I decided the criteria was - value for money and somewhere to relax. We usually take these crazy trips where we pack in as much sightseeing as we can, and then end up exhausted at the end! Now, I'm not one who relaxes easily, don’t enjoy swimming or sea sand, but Thailand sounded like a good enough option.

This morning we wandered around town running some errands; donating items from our backpacks that we no longer need, I having a bagel at our favorite bagels, I'm going to the post office to mail a package home. At the airport I found out that Vovo isn't doing very well so ...

... bar with the surfing in the middle of it. Surfing o this wave was nothing like real surfing - more like snowboarding, but it was really good fun. We had an hour slot and with quite a few people there, I had 6 or 7 goes. I got it quite quickly and was able to turn and ride the wave. But the best thing at the end of the trip was to go home and be back with my cookie :-) Now I can play Muay Thai with him (with dubious success), or at least I can practice my punches against his softer parts of the ...

... quick tour of the area.

So this was it for our time in Thailand - what had started out so beautifully in Chiang Mai quickly descended to the lowest of the lows, but things have definitely looked up for us in Kata. It's easy to say that we would never come back to Thailand because of what happened, but that's really not true - I'm a firm believer in not blaming the greater whole for the sins of the tiny minority. The bottom line is that Thai people are amazing, ...
