Alarm went off at 5am yesterday to get ready for the long ferry trip from Athens to Thira, Santorini. Wasn't a great sleep, woke up at 1.30am then again at 3.30am, I think I was afraid of sleeping through the alarm. The ferry is huge and takes cars as well as people. The port was a hive of activity, tonnes of people all doing the same as us on lots of ferries with varying ferry companies. Jus booked us business class seats which were close to the front of the ...

... then had to put on a helmet and another greek guy hit me on the head with a baseball bat - dont worry, he didnt hit me hard at all. It was the most random bar experience but it was fun to be part of a tradition and overall it was a great night!

Of course Tuesday morning we once again had breakfast at the hostel - the amazing toast!!! We had earlier decided to spend the day at the beach and therefore had a relaxed morning. We met some Americans who were on exchange ...

Monday (17th) up at 5am to get our things together and then walked to the train station. Short train ride in and we were at Piraeus port where we collected our ferry tickets and climbed on board. The ferry is quite nice, not as good as the one from Scotland to Ireland but this one sells classier seating so economy is just squished in around them. We managed to score ourselves a window seat in cattle class so we were pretty happy. After a few hours we went and sat up on ...

We arrived in the morning around 9am and anchored just off shore. It was lovely to have some nice hot weather. The houses of Santorini appear like a covering of snow on top of the rugged steep hills rising out of the bay where the Costa Magica anchored. There was only one other cruise ship on the bay. Everyone going ashore was ferried over to the little port of Fira. From there we caught another ...

... into the bright blue water. We did an amazing hike from the main town Fira to the town Oia which is known for its amazing sunsets. Jay found the hike a bit difficult in the heat (hottest day of our trip so far), however the views on the hike were amazing and the sun going down over the town looked cool. The walk was about 3 hours, but fortunately it had a few stores on route to ...
