Martinique to Trinidad

After our delightful stay on Bequia, we undertook our first overnight sail with Ellis aboard. He chose to stay outside in the cockpit all night - partly to watch the stars and partly to avoid a queasy stomach. We had a great sail and arrived in St. Lucia early morning. We only stayed in St. Lucia long enough for a few long walks and provisioning. We wanted to spend some extra time on the French island of Martinique before we 180'd our direction to enjoy the Mardi ...

New Years Eve........What New Years Eve?

... the only place we could get food was KFC. When we approached the store it was closing for the night at 9pm and we just slipped under the door to place an order. All they had on the menu was hot wings, so we ordered 100 hot wings (I think their week's supply) and retreated to the yacht for a few beers and some wine and KFC. Sorry Matt! A couple of days after our New Years Eve fiasco we were able to restore our faith in the French Island as we restocked the boat ...

Christmas In The Caribbean

... getting air and burning fuel and basically having a good time..... Boxing Day we went on an island adventure tour in an open top extended Land Rover Defender. This took us up into the hills of St Lucia and down the coast to some fishing villages and waterfalls. The island has some stunning bays one which was where "Doctor Doolittle" (the original) was made and is now home to some famous people such as Oprah, although she's probably got a house on every island in the Caribbean!

First Day at the beach

We went to this beautiful beach less than five minutes from our hotel room. It was super amazing, the fish actually we by my feet. Christina screamed like a baby, she freaks out at the site of live fish. She yelled at Nemo and flounder. Reduit Beach, St, Lucia's acclaimed best beach.

... it's path) - and this was with someone aboard. We decided that it wasn't the owner and this particular fellow didn't really know what to do. We stood by ready to lend assistance, but there wasn't much we could do. All the chap needed to do was pull the anchor up and reset it. We figured he didn't know how to handle the boat, but once he got just a few feet from the other boat, he started his engine and pulled up anchor. Why he ...

Heading North

16/04/08, Wednesday, 18:00, St. Pierre, Martinique Had a nice sail up here today - the wind and current were with us. Mountains here are great. Virgin Mary statue overlooking the town. Watched a pod of dolphins play in clear water on our bow. They were so close, I could hear them breathe when they surfaced.

15/04/08, Tuesday, 22:30, Rodney Bay Dinner and pool was great two nights ago. Had two great days after that hanging out at Scuttlebutts. Met crazy Norwegian guy there today. [No, seriously, this guy was nuts. He and his friends decided to quit their jobs, buy a boat, and sail around the world. One of them had been sailing before - they made him captain. My kind of people.]

Dominica and Martinique

... Pigeon Island the seas were quite rough and we were uncomfortable getting close enough for a mooring in the dark so we motored east into an anchorage off Pte Malendure and dropped a hook. Although it was a little rough (monohulls were rocking and rolling there) we were comfortable on FS. In the morning the seas were still a little choppy. We tried to find a mooring off Pigeon Island that was far enough from the rocks to make us comfortable with leaving FS to snorkel. Everywhere we ...

... moored up we were greeted by local boatman Eric Spaghetti. He told us he would sort us out with anything we needed so we arranged to be picked up for dinner later and he made us a reservation. This felt much more Caribbean than in Martinique. Dominica is quite a poor island and there are no direct flights in from the USA or Europe but this means it is very unspoilt. That night Eric Spaghetti picked us up and took us to Big Papas restaurant. We had an amazing meal of mahi mahi fish ...
