... things. Our favourite month of the journey so far was the time we spent in Bellavista, Ecuador up to Sydney, Australia. The first 2 weeks were spent enjoying wildlife and seeing things we had only ever seen before on the BBC’s Planet Earth. Then we went to Easter Island, then Sydney- both incredibly charismatic places. This month was one that we ...
Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Malaysia caroline_little... the ferry over to the Island. Chauey and I have been here before with the gals in 2008 and loved it so much, we couldn't wait to share it with our families and other friend. We are staying at the Laguna Island Resort which look after you from the time you arrive at the airport. ( To be honest this is a gorgeous resort and well run but we both preferred the smaller resort that we stayed in previously... The Coral Redang Resort ...
Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Malaysia luvlifetravelThe little boat just drove up on the the beach and chucked out bags over the front, we jumped out with them and wondered along to the Lighthouse Longhouse, at the end of the beach, there were only 10 people on our boat and after walking for about 5 minutes, us and the french girls were wondering along an empty beach. We found the longhouse tucked away in the trees just at the end of the bay. The longhouse itself is a traditional communal living set up used mainly in borneo, with one ...
Pulau Kapas, Malaysia guyandcalumWe are staying on a beautiful little island, just 6km off the mainland. It is only about 2km long, and is very quiet and empty. The beach is really lovely, white sand, palm trees etc. Apparently the snorkelling is excellent here, but unfortunately we arrived round about ...
Pulau Kapas, Malaysia dannyandjess... although the last day I was there we had a bit of a jellyfish problem. It didn't mean you couldn't swim, but if you did you were pretty much guaranteed to get stung a bit (they really don't hurt that much though - less painful than, say, a bee sting). Here's a list of the various critters that I ran into, both above and below the water: Sharks! Yeah, I saw two more (or maybe it was the same one twice) black tipped ...
Pulau Kapas, Malaysia akre... for the couple of days we were there. Not to worry as the guidebook said that any fish you catch the resort can cook for you that night & it's a good job Andy wasn't banking on that to fill him up either as they armed him with a tiny rod & a few small worms as bait & sent us on our way with a couple of oars & a rowing boat the following morning. That rowing lark is harder then it looks though & after ...
Tasik Bera, Malaysia andynkerryWell im now sunburned and well snorkeled. Had a 7 hr bus trip up to the top of Malaysia where we bailed off the bus at an intersection that led to the jetty that led to another tropical getaway, after 30 mins in taxi an hour waiting and half an hour in a 400hp speedboat we were transferred to a dingy which transferred us to Palau Perentian Kecil (Palau is Island and Kecil is small). Where we spent 5 days in the sun. The ...
Kota Bharu, Malaysia benwhit... down the street ( shopping of course) and heard a strange squeak sound. There about twenty yards away was a teenage elephant. Many of the local Thailand people don't like seeing the elephants on the city streets. It's too hot and there is little for them to eat. So this elephant should not have been on the shopping street. But some people are using the elephants to beg for money from the tourists. So it was a suprise to see an elephant so close up, but really sad also.
Penang, Malaysia there_and_back... The next day, today on wednesday, we stayed on the island until 2pm. Then we left for Kuala Terengganu where we had time to spend until 8pm. We wandered around the city, did some shopping. Terengganu had not much to offer but it was still interesting to see how locals live. In the evening we catched the flight back to KL. Tomorrow Dina and Riitta are leaving for Finland and our journey continues to Borneo.
Pulau Kapas, Malaysia danielheidiI love the thick vegetation, the fresh smells, the life under every leaf that the rainforest has to offer. Unforgettable memories: thick jungle, walking on a network of canopies high on the trees, swimming in the jungle river, meeting new friends, watching monkeys steal food from the trash, getting woken ...
