The girl at the reception told me that tonight was free drink night with sake and plum wine. I thought this would be a nice occasion to celebrate my birthday even though it was a day too early. :-) Got the Castella cake i bought in Nagasaki out of my bag and made my official birthday cake. ... halfway down the street and they were all still waving, and as I reached the end...yes, still all three waving me off. That has to be a highlight. I spent the rest of the day moving stuff to Retrometro backpackers, which is small and lovely again, then lazed in Ueno park. Way over 30degrees again-still 31 at 5, without sun-but entering the park it was noticeably cooler so I stayed. ... and if we thought the previous station was big...we were wrong!!!!! This station was even bigger and people everywhere.
Somehow we ended up on street level just as it started to rain and wandered the streets until we found our hotel.

The rooms in Japan are tiny....the bathroom was the size of a cupboard, although it did have a cool toilet with lots of buttons...Anthony thought it was funny to leave the heated seat on for me!!!
