Wonderful week exploring atolls in the Maldives
... another picture-perfect island just over an hour later.
The preferred direction to snorkel is to the left, where we find an excellent wall, stacked with fan and table corals, with good outcropping bombies. There are lots of big clams, and wonderful coral gardens where there are gaps in the wall. We try to cut directly back to the island, but the water is very shallow over the top of staghorn coral, and we don't want to damage it or us, so end up ...
Paradise
... a wonderful four posted bed with net curtains. The decking out the front is perfect with a separate thatched roofed cabana even closer to the water with deck chairs and a hammock. The bathroom has no doors or glass in the windows and is completely exposed to the outside and includes an outdoor shower (which I love) as well as the indoor one. We then did our own snorkel trail which was spectacular...we snorkelled the length of the Jacuzzi water villas, starting from our place (702...the beginning) and going all the way to the end, all the way under the villas and the walkway. What an awesome snorkel...black tip reef sharks in abundance gliding inches away from you, pufferfish, triggerfish, 3 large rays, titan triggerfish, giant trevallys...incredible.

Diving Blind!
... sharks, HUGE triggerfish, HUGE rainbow parrotfish, the clown triggerfish (always my favorite at the zoo), a FLOCK of 13 spotted eagle rays just gliding through the water, puffer fish, 8 eels - including Giant Mooray eels - it was so amazing. It's really awful to think that the coral reef & the islands & people are all in desperate need of protecting here. We met with the kids on our island yesterday at their school, they were all really awesome kids ...
