Well, the first week has gone pretty quick. I've spoken more Japanese in the last couple of days than I have in the last couple of years! It's been really fun. I thought that I would share with you some things that I have learnt about myself since arriving in Japan.
1. I am hopeless at reading maps. I always thought it was the Gregory's directory, but no... it's me. I have ...
Here I am, my final destination in Japan. Seems pretty strange that I'm only 3 days into my trip and already at my final destination, but that's how it is.
This morning I woke up really early. I'm not 100% sure of the time, but there was no light outside, nor was there any traffic - so I figure somewhere around 5ish (possibly 5 Aussie time which would have meant that it was 4am Japan time!). As I was completely ...
... long that straight line was. By the time I got to where I thought the palace was supposed to be, I was stuffed. I had stopped off along the way and bought a couple of onigiri (rice balls with stuff inside them), and had envisioned enjoying my lunch in the shade of the palace. But by the time I got to the Noh theatre (which was at the entry to the palace gardens), and then discovered that the palace was yet a much longer ...

... weekend of drinking and train rides and bathing in the sun all day, I was glad I had such a good pal with me to share the inconvenience that is Inaka (Inaka = countryside).
The interesting thing about this evening is our run-ins with nature. Neither of us had seen any wild boars (Inoshishi), the oddly-horned deer that looks like goats (Shika, or Bambi), or any other wildlife in Japan yet. I count myself lucky that I haven't run into any Mamushi (Vipers) yet. Well, on the road, we ...
... taste, hehe. I got home at around 9:30. I have a busy day tomorrow since we have to help Sasaki sensei and Aoyama sensei with their classes tomorrow. It means I need to be at school at 9 am and then we have our first cloth dying class tomorrow! So we actually have a full day from 9-3:30 and then Nishio is taking us to get our Alien Registration Cards so I can finally buy a cel phone! Until next time!
Nagoya, Chubu, Japan weeaboo... that fact, plus the festive atmosphere of the place with all the picnicking families made it more than worthwhile. Mayu's parents ended up joining us down there as well, having driven down from Kariya on inspiration from their daughter. The weather was positively springlike today, with a daytime high of probably 20-22°. Such unseasonable temperatures have me really hankering for April and May to arrive. Judging from the enthusiasm of all the Japanese tourists today ...
Nagoya, Japan xerius... person you hope to meet on your first day and made clear that there wasn't any beds available. At the question if she could advise me in finding a place to sleep she said immediately to go to the Tourist Office, which is obviously closed at 7:30 pm. After calling a dozen Hotels I luckily found one in Sakea area for 6300 YEN per night. 43 Euro's, but it was the best I could get. The location was perfect, in the heart of the nightlife and huge ...
Nagoya, Japan s1nd5r... bikes and travel somewhere cool and then bike from there. And yes, there will probably be some camping involved ... I'm not a huge fan of that part of the plan, but I'll cope. We are just keeping our fingers crossed for good weather while we are away. Two weeks after that we have a two week summer vacation! We have no idea what we are going to do for that holiday. Japan Airlines has a promotion right now, where you can fly anywhere in Japan for about $100 (you have to pay full ...
