Week 1 Arrival and Goa

... went skipping down the beach. Yesterday I got a haircut! A bag of chips is about 10 cents. Its in the 90's every day. All the food is good, but always hot and spicy, so it is hard to eat a lot when it's this hot out. The rest of our stay here as been uneventful. We leave tomorrow and are headed two towns north, to Ajuna, a more lively town. Sorry for the length of this blog, they will get shorter I promise. Miss you all very much!

Jorinde oftewel Jogender

Jorinde

School Update

... how dirty it was until I got here. I've not seen a rat, an open sewer or any garbage for 2 whole days! There is constant running water in our beach hut (the water in the Bandra appartment has all but given up) and at night it is cold enough to sleep under TWO blankets. The other thing I have realised is that there is a danger when you work with kids that you may end up not wanting any of your own! I've noticed this a lot, but when ...

... Harry (check my Facebook photos) and I hired mopeds for the day and went to a beach called Angonda and also Patnem. Whist at Angonda we saw what were quite easily the biggest waves on the trip. We were just body surfing (recently taught by BAD - see above) and one monster wave dumped Martin on the sea floor leaving him groaning and bleeding. He is sporting a great war wound today around his eye and head. He still looks like Harry but the Harry ...

My Indian Friends: Jesse's Version of the Story

... of an experience is to meet someone local, who knows the ropes, knows the places, knows the real deal, so to speak. This is one of the top craziest things that has happened to me while traveling, falling somewhere between meeting a North Korean refugee on the run and helping him in northern Thailand and getting puked on by some crazy lady on a public bus to Jaisalmer, India, in 110 degree weather. The following is ...

Finally an update from Goa, Here till the 29th.

... I knew I'd be here for a while. The weather is the same pretty much every day, it's about high 20's I'm guessing each day. I don't really know to be honest, it's just nice and always sunny. The area I'm staying in is Calangute which is near the north of the Goa beaches. It's by far the most touristy area in Goa, there are more tourists than backpackers here that's for sure. Mostly tourists here for a couple weeks from Europe, the most from the UK it seems. The ...

My Ideal Beach Seems Out of Reach....I'm Finding t

... but may also provide the peace and quite I was after. After a grueling journey, the final leg being on the 'toy train' ( which apparently has UNESCO World Heritage status), I reached Ooty (Udhagamandalam). The 'toy train' to Ooty was described in my guide book (I'm going to throw the damn thing away!!) as being one of the top five romantic and unmissable journeys in India - so I was really excited and looking forward to it. In order to take the 'toy train', I had to catch a prior ...

Bus from Mumbai to Goa

... cows (yes cows!) left little brown surprises everywhere. The beach along the Arabian Sea stretched for as far as the eye could see, but we could barely find a spot to lay our blanket among the crowd. Spending a bit more time in our Lonely Planet guidebooks this time, we started thinking maybe we had made the wrong decision coming south. Justin and I would eventually be on the picturesque beaches of ...

... blood. On day three, they told me that I did not have Hepatitis B, so they took even more blood. However, on day four, it was confirmed that I now have Hepatitis E. We decided that as I was ****ed, I had to get out and fly home for a rest. As we no longer have a flat in London, Lucy booked some tickets for Sydney. On day five, I was allowed to check out, but was also told to rest in India for another ten days. **** that ...
