... After a quick visit with Kriton's Dad... We headed to our resort to check in... As Kriton and Laura were due to pick Katy (one of the Bridesmaids) up from Paphos airport. Coral Beach Resort is amazing...Absolutely huge and we are taking a tour of it tomorrow so we can see where everything is...as we arrived around 9.45pm. Ah, cobble stones (you know how I feel about footings), seaside, roads, infrastructure and long lunches...welcome to civilisation...welcome to Paphos, Cyprus! Now don't get me wrong I enjoy as much as the next person some cheap brightly colored ceramics and some blingy tinny bangles but it becomes a little tedious and the lack of appropriate supermarkets also becomes frustrating in an Arab country, so imagine my delight at entering the EU! So to my horror after boarding our air conditioned coach and proceeding in a convoy of 12 identical coaches along the highway out of Aqaba, through the deserts of Wadi Rum (Wadi meaning dry place of water- I know this because our guide would chant this every time we went through an area that was known as a Wadi), into the mountains and arriving into Petra I was deposited onto a sight that had....sand paths to traverse.... ... drove to Coral Bay to look at the harbour. We walked along the promenade and looked at all the boats, and also saw a cool old castle.
On Wednesday we swam in the pool straight after breakfast (how amazing is that!) and then we drove southwards to Kourion, where there are lots of ancient ruins from Roman times. We saw the remains of some roman baths (which used hydraulic systems! The romans were so smart!) and lots of mosaics, but my favourite part was definitely the ...
... with Greek and Roman remains including some amazing mosaic floors that had been discovered. Some had been protected with new buildings to keep the weather off but much of the finds have been left exposed or even included in the walk ways of the park. It was far better than we expected it to be and the next best ruins we have seen outside of Rome.
