HERE IS THE END OF MY SUMMER DESTINATIONS 2009 Blog.
I can admit, I went to more places than I expected. It was fun each time, and I really need to stay a bit at home now before my next trip. Again the coming trip comes sooner than I expected it to be.

... tourists alike. We stayed in a seaside hotel with water views, swam and beaced it until late and explored the village to our hearts content. We have loved seeing the Med. The crystal clear waters, warm currents, and pebble beaches leave us only wishing for more. They are however not perfect as the centuries of fishing have devastaed the populations and it is rare to see fish in any numbers. Still, we will miss mixing the historical with the relaxing and spending our time on the shore.
... ice cream cone and another gyro, and called it an early night. The following day, I was planning on taking a longer trip to visit Mystra, one of the best-preserved Byzantine sites in the Peloponnese. But after chatting with a Brazilian guy on the bus to Mycanae, I found out that he'd just been there and most of the site was closed for restoration, so I decided to postpone my visit there until my next trip to Greece (which means I have to come back ...
Peloponnese, Greece canadianjulie... with its own castle). I also took a day trip to Nysoros and island that is home to a dormant valcano. Pretty cool. I really enjoyed Kos and would love to go back and make it a jumping off point for another island tour in the very distant future. Three days gone by, I took a short ferry to Bodrum Turkey where I met some very friendly employees of the local bus company before traveling by night bus to Istanbul to complete my Greek adventure.
Dodecanese, Greece broncos... the entire distance without stopping, but moments after proclaiming his message "Nenikekamen" ("We were Victorious!") to the city he collapsed dead from exhaustion. The account of the run from Marathon to Athens first appears in Plutarch's On the Glory of Athens in the 1st century AD. I walked around Marathon, population 9000, but it was a ghost town. Most stores were closed and had siesta hours so visiting mid-afternoon wasn't ...
Marathon, Attica, Greece rnriggins... Hydra was one of most beautiful island amongst the three. Finally, Aegina - the place where pistachios were grown. Their pistachios, unlike the ones we get at home, are more sour in taste and tinier in size. It was in Aegina that we got the 2nd chance to taste ouzo again with ...
Saronic Gulf Islands, Greece ikanbilis... site was mentioned by Homer in his epic poem "Iliad and the Odyssey" - "Well-built Mycenae, rich in gold!" We witnessed the famous Lion Gate (the lions were carved above the lintel). We also visited the Grave of the ancient kings. We were told that there's a secret stairway (of 99 steps) to a cistern beneath the citadel!! A pity we did not have sufficient time to explore ...

STENI EVIAS, Greece evia... There is not much to see at Marathon but the implications of the battle resound to modern times as it allowed ancient Greek society to prosper and bloom in which democracy, philosophy, artistic techniques, as well as other advances in thought were experiented with and enacted.
Marathon, Greece sojournerWe took many photos of the boat at that stage, since there's not much to see or do in Kimi in mid-september, let's be honnest. A few are displayed here, among others you will appreciate the original 1964 life raft, one we're happy we didn't have to use ;-) (we were close twice though). Also, I remember we had a party that night and I still excpect your pictures, Tony ! No censorship accepted !
