... planted in the Venetian rule. Again another day to be 38 degrees! Beautiful weather. We catch a shuttle bus in to Corfu. It has a unique atmosphere and a fascinating blend of architectural styles. With a lovely outdoor culture and twisting streets and hidden alleyways, a lot of greenery compliments the pretty buildings. An old fortress competes with a newer one. The old Quarter is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Corfu is a place to explore for historians, ...

We stopped at the port of Corfu. The only way to really get around the island is to take an excursion. At least it was for us. We were going to see a Monastery in the village of Palaiokastritsa and to the village of Gastouri to visit the 19th century Achilleion Palace.

I looked for an ...

... minutes later that no, this bus wasn't going to Saranda, after all. Huh??!??

Chalk it up to being in quirky Albania, but we scrambled onto a much-smaller furgon, and began the six-hour ride to Saranda, in a hot, cramped little bus with no AC. Luckily for us, an 8 AM departure meant that much of our journey was completed before the hottest time of the day, which is still not to say that any part of the ride was pleasant.

... not clear and, shockingly, they do not provide one of those nifty little sponge things. The rain was so bad at this point, and the road flooded that I thought I would use the down time to try and tune my radio station in. What a complete waste of time. All the stations sound exactly alike and play music which can only be described as the equivalent of aural thrush-intensly irritating. The worst bit is that the only component of the car that actually seems ...
