We're not sure how he got there, but we found him taped to a bottle of sunscreen sitting on our pillow when we got back from dinner last night. He won't tell us how he got there, but we have posted a pic of him in case anyone recognized him. This morning, we found him sitting at the patio door, apparently gazing outside.
kailua-kona, Hawaii, United States kathyglurIn this blog, you have come to expect detailed descriptions of flights and adventures with gate agents and the like, as half the adventure is usually getting to our destination. I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad to say that I have very little to report about our transit, because, well... it went pretty much like clockwork.

Travis and I took off from SFO right on schedule in our 777. We had 16HJ, which are the first exit ...
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, United States dyer0930... of Mauna Kea we were able to see Mauna Loa, which is an active volcano. I guess Mauna Kea stands for "white mountain," which makes sense because most winters it snows up there. In fact, it's possible to ski or snowboard when there is enough and conditions are not too windy. On this particular day in November we did actually find a patch of snow!

This was our second time visiting Mauna Kea on the 5-day trip. On an earlier day we went ...
Mauna Kea, Hawaii, United States alifebeinglived... we surfaced and docked, we went for lunch then shopping. I found the prices reasonable after Greece. Apparently tourism is down this year in Hawaii, as a result of the rise in airplane fuel and the financial disaster in the US. I saw one real estate firm boldly advertising that it had "100s of foreclosures" to offer, as though that were a good thing. Because of all this, I felt a little less guilty knowing I was contributing to the ...
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, United States melissagquestThe storm, which should have blown itself out overnight on th 6th, decided to sit over the island for an extra day. I was very glad that I had been given little choice over my mode of transportation, because, even though I am English, and used to the rain, I would not have been thrilled at the prospect of traversing the Big Island on a scooter in a rainstorm. The words "drowned rat" spring to mind (which is appropriate seeing as I was born in the year ...
Volcanoes, Hawaii, United States sahsLast night a handful of Tabatha's friends and I stayed at her parent's condo. This morning, after hanging out over breakfast, we made out plans for the day. Everyone from the wedding got together for a BBQ down at the pool around 11am. Tabatha's friends Amy and Liz and I left the gathering early as Amy needed a ride to the airport, and Liz was also going to pickup a car at the aiport to make the drive to Volcano. I had made reservations to go on the ...
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, United States ameliafeIt's pretty cold on Mauna Kea at 5am in the morning as you wait for the sunrise. Yesterday morning's summit excursion to retrieve our producer, Kris Koenig's 35mm camera found ourselves freezing in the Mauna Kea wind chill atop the mountain. In a spontaneous decision on the parts of our Director of Photography, Steve Chollet, and myself we decided to trek down ...
Mauna Kea, Hawaii, United States 400yrstelescope... shake-up" we encountered was caused by the flight crew's announcement that some of the baggage had not made it onto the plane from San Francisco upon departure. The production team, especially our producer, was a bit upset at the potential hassle caused by not having our equipment for tomorrow's shoot, until the safe recovery of all of our baggage alleviated our worries. From the Kona airport, we picked up our rental car, played "reality" Tetris in fitting ...
Hilo, Hawaii, United States 400yrstelescopeShortly after 7:00 AM we were awakened by the unsettling noise made by the fact that the walls of our hotel room were swaying back and forth. Given that we were in Hawaii, which owes it's existence to hotspot volcanism, we had just assumed that earthquakes were rather common. It soon became apparent from news reports, though, that ...
Volcanoes, Hawaii, United States teamcedDuring periods of warfare, the peak (`Iao Needle) was used as a lookout by warriors. It was here that some Maui warriors retreated from the forces of Kamehameha I during the battle of Kepaniwai. `Iao Valley is the site of one of the most famous battles that occurred in 1790 and changed Hawaii history forever when King Kamehameha I destroyed the Maui army in an effort to unite the Hawaiian Islands ...
