Day 2 in Beijing

... patrol etc. The wiritings on their arm shows that they're the patrol for the residential area that I'm walking by so I went up to ask them how to get to COFCO Plaza. To my surprise, it is infact very far away from bus stop I got off from, it's like 30 minutes walk from the bus stop to COFCO plaza. There I go, walked for 30 minutes in heels and formal business wear until I reach the building, but looking at the building ...

What are they laughing at

"A camel can carry a load of thousand catties, but a man can only carry one tenth as much," added the Princess. "Should the man ride the camel or the camel the man?" A great laugh went up from the crowd at this taunt.

"What are they laughing at?" one of the four giants asked the envoy.

"They ...

And so this is why they call it culture shock:

... ruin your clothes, so I hung mine on a clothesline outside. Between the gusting wind and the weak string, it broke. All my clothes fell to the dirty ground. Thank goodness once again for my outdoor action experience, I brushed hte clothes off, added some febreeze and everything was all right.
e) Chinese clothing for women is adorable, they all walk around looking like dolls. I am incredibly jealous of their sense of style.

Ching Chang China Man.

... A bit pricey but definitely unique. Some of it was great, some of it could have been done better, being able to follow the storyline would have helped but overall it was enjoyable with some clever use of pontoons, lighting, rafts, fire and props. The best bit was the audience. Largely Chinese, who all thought it was fine to talk nonstop and loudly through the whole performance! And they are an excitable bunch with huge ooooooohhhs and aaaaahhhhhhhs when something happened. Day 14 was ...

Cut price Beijing hotels

... Tiananmen Square, said it cut its rates last month by about 20 per cent. A quarter of the hotel's foreign bookings were cancelled at the end of May due to a massive May 12 earthquake in south-west China and the snow storms that struck the south in February, Tian said. "It is getting harder as the Olympics approaches to sell rooms. Now we have cut our prices to attract domestic guests," he said. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx ?id=601802

Week Two

... forward to was the long chute you can ride down on these little black roller things. Unfortunately, we were all pretty disappointed when we discovered it was closed and would open just after we needed to leave. Oh well. We took the chair lift down, which was not nearly as awesome but still sufficed. At the bottom, I shopped with Megan and bought the best dried fruit (strawberries, kiwis) and a banana that I've ever tasted. That's a *******e to beat, too, after the markets ...

Getting Oriented

We are a bit behind in our entries, one reason is our Internet access in this hotel is poor. Not sure if its the hotel or in general. Beijing is a beautiful city. The core area is very modern, clean and not unlike Ottawa, Montreal or New York City. The POP is 14 Million, with about 3 Million cars and 8 million bikes. Bei stands for Northern or North and Jing for Capital. Friday was our first full day and we had breakfast and ...

Beijing and beyond

... and the noise of busy city life. On arriving we were quickly shown around and questions were asked of the farmer through Caroline as our interpretor due to the farm not having an English speaking person on it. Then to work.... Our first job was to clean our house, this was to be where we would reside after our days toil in the fields. It was a partly built concrete building with some doors and windows, no electricity, running water, toilet or mattress! but we ...

Either they didn't push the button hard enough, or they cut off our heads, or they didn't get the building in the background...who knew so many people were such terrible photographers??!! (See following pictures:) We finally got a decent enough ...
