    We arrived in Weifang in cold rain and snow and were welcomed by HM's friend Fan Yun, a master leaf and paper cutter who spent several weeks in Columbia last fall.     ... carved jade, sculptures of classic heroes and Buddhas, household decorations, calligraphy and paintings. We were photographed with artists and public officials and interviewed by the media! Fan Yan, who met Spencer last year in Lexington, gave me a kite and a small clay tiger for Spencer.

    ... before we leave Weifang. It's a pink coy fish kite, which happens to be a very appropriate keepsake since Weifang is famous for its kites. My kite is nothing fancy, but while shopping we got to see a lot of really neat ones! There were lots of animal kites like mine, some made specifically for decoration, and others that were so big I could hardly imagine getting them up in the air!
