Wobbling Towards the Vortex of Ondoy's Wrath

... feeling that something unusual was happening out there. But I kept hoping though that it was nothing tragic.

At around 11:30 a.m., the rain started to subside. I felt my tummy grumble so I decided to grab a bite at a nearby KFC chain along Matalino Street, which is just a block away from my hotel. I was barely a few meters away from Kalayaan Avenue when the torrent once again poured. The heavy rain and the howling winds that ...

Rihanna and Chris Brown come to the Fort (Jane)

Tonight is the Rihanna/Chris Brown concert in the open field next to Bonifacio High Street. From our balcony we can't quite see the concert but we can hear it and we can watch the commotion as people try to scramble for the last minute parking spaces. The concert officially started at 7pm and there is still a long line of traffic trying to find a place to park. Fortunately for the people still in the cars, the concert hasn't actually started ...

Hopefully we have a driver (Russ)

... back to the pop music of the 60's. Maybe that explains why you can go to see Petula Clark or Paul Anka, here in concert. But the music today was just a bit different, you'll have to read my next blog "My how time flies" to see just what I mean. So anyway, it's to the clinic where he signs in and I wait to pay. Finally that's over, I pay and Fher heads to get his physical. Hopefully 2-3 days from now we'll have our own driver.

Ensaymada (Jane)

... involved chocolate. But wait! Is ensaymada really a dessert? The ensaymada I just bought at Goldilocks had ham in it. Ham??? I guess that explains what the word hamonado on the wrapper stands for. This is good news. Ham in my ensaymada means I can eat them for lunch guilt free, right? Now if I can just find one that is chocolate filled, life will be perfect.

Manila Overload

I thought Bangkok was mad, but it hasn't got a patch on Manila. The streets are even noisier and more polluted, there are even stranger smells and sights, and there are prosititues absolutley everywhere. Its unreal!! I read the other day that over 600,000 people work in the 'industry' here. And on the flight here you couls see that there were loads of sleazy old men coming here for that exact reason, and for worse things. There was a guy arrested in the ...

... to do is be careful when traveling during winter by bus since the hi-ways are slippery due to snows that clog or hinder. It also take longer time (at least 16 hours) traveling by bus because buses stop from station to another station in cities you will pass by. But for me as a traveler, and as a new foreigner in the land, I prefer going to and from any city or province in China by train. There are a lot of train trips to Beijing from Changchun ...

the Phils 1

... the people and culture before me were dazzling. It was hard to look at and it was hard not to stare at. Two pilots hit on a couple of barely legal girls at baggage claim. Life was unabashedly, unapologetically happening all around me. I ordered myself to stop making unfair comparisons between the winter I had left behind and the eternal summer I had emerged into. This proved difficult. I was met, and we flew away south, through the rusting, hurtling traffic ...
