Oh and ... yes we saw a lighthouse. But it is a replica.
The lighthouse was originally built in 1887 and demolished in 1968. This 1993 replica was built for a film and now stands on the pier.
Amazing how cheeky sparrows are. The cleaned up the plate on the table next to us. And they had a go at Mama's cream. I think they would have taken crumbs from our fingers, they were that tame. ...

Then the sea begins to rise and constant floods make Schokland an island.
Densely populating the island two communities live here and prospered. They fished and farmed. Until 1825 when major flooding brings massive destruction and hardship. This leads to the island being deserted in 1859.
