... one available and it had just been vacated and was currently being cleaned. "It's very basic" he said. At RM 33 it was the cheapest on the island "that'll be fine, I'm not fussy all I need is a bed" I said, seeming all 'die hardy traveller'. Then I saw the room. Oh Lordy, basic he says, the cave in the jungle was more bloody comfortable than this. I didn't even undress for bed, fully prepared to leap up in the middle of ...

... so helpful. You go out in a small group snorkeling and the beach infront of the resort is twice as nice as Laguna's. They are building a new resort next door to the Coral Redang that looks good so far but they haven't finished yet, so who knows.
Where ever you stay I'm sure if you come to Redang you'll fall in-love with the place!
During our stay we went snorkeling in the Marine Park ( so many fish ) we swam just off ...

Luckily i wasnt too short of company as on day 3 a group of divers came ashore, consisting of a mix of malaysian divemasters and a couple of tourists who were learning just off the coast. For the rest of the week i had an absolute blinder and made some friends for life in the "pirate bar" which was constructed ...

... day, we decided to take a day snorkeling trip, where we'd be stopping at 5 different spots to see turtles, sharks (tortues, requins), and of course many colorful tropical fish. First on the list: turtles! Our guide found us several (plusieurs), so each time, he'd spot the boat and we'd jump into the water and chase the turtle around for awhile. JP even managed to touch one. We saw about 5, one enormous, all incredible! We were close enough swimming behind them that we ...

... and it proved to be a true highlight so far. We stayed the first couple of nights on a remote beach with just a few wooden, ram-shackle huts and one family to look after us at meal times. There is no electricity so the nights were pretty dark and hot after the generator was switched off but for us this just added to the fun. For dinner was a choice of rice or noodles and she'd run out of noodles, so it wasn't ...

... method to get to K. Bahru. It was my plan to try to seek refuge in the Singapore Airlines lounge for a few hours, then get up and take taxis across the Malaysian border to Johor Bahru, departure point for our next flight. Not sure what I was thinking, since we had to collect our checked bags, which put us out of reach of the comfort of the lounge. Oops. Plan B was to get in a cab in Singapore and be dropped off at the J. Bahru airport in the middle of the night ...

Happy New Year!

... see eating with one's hands as primitive, but I'd be lying to say that I don't enjoy certain kinds of food that way. For people here, eating nasi with a fork and spoon is like eating a slice of pizza or hot dog with a fork - you can do it, but it's just not right. We also had some fresh raw vegetables, chicken, and fresh fish, which I am told is available every day from stalls in front of the school, so long as the weather is good enough for fishing.

Terengganu!

... to and from Terengganu. A welcome party of around 30 people met us at the airport: government officials, teachers, and students carrying 3-metre palm trees made of tinsel to cover our path. It was quite the spectacle. We heard later that our arrival was announced last night on local radio. When we arrived at our welcome lunch, the media was in full force to capture our every apprehension about coming to Terengganu. "How did you feel when you learned you were ...
