Historical Traveler Reviews of K K Palais Hotel Vienna

Great Hotel and city

from emmieBournemouth
Just back from a long weekend in Vienna. The hotel was great near the centre and 2 mins from trams or underground. The bedrooms were very comfortable and well furnished and also the public rooms. The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfasts were great and included champagne every morning. We couldn't fault the hotel at all.

Vienna is a lovely city. We went to the opera Saturday evening and Mass on Sunday to hear the Vienna Boys Choir. There were lovely museums, shops and Christmas markets. We had lots of Gluwein to keep out the cold (it was snowing) and mugs of hot chocolate with apple strudel!

We will certainly be making a return visit.

Excellent comfortable base

from PeterEWard
I endorse most of what the other reviews have said except about staff rudeness which we did not find at all. The reception staff were extremely helpful, despite being busy at peak times, although we were give wrong information by one member. As someone else said the bus from the airport goes non-stop in about 20 minutes for Eur6.00 to and from Morzinplatz which is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel - brilliant! Don't let them tell it departs from Schwedenplatz - it does not!

At first sight the location seems a little out of where the action is but it is only a very few minutes walk away. It is more than compensated for by being exceptionally tranquil for an inner city hotel, and close to the underground and the street trains.

The hotel is everything you could ask for in its bracket. Rooms large enough, well kitted-out, everything worked, clean, warm, comfortable in a modern style. The Phillipine staff in the breakfast room were excellent and looked after us well - and the buffet was excellent too. It is not a glitzy hotel on the Hilton, Intercontinental style as it only has a small bar and lounge area, though there is a small lounge available with free tea and coffe for residents only. No restaurant for lunch, dinner etc., but there are places nearby. Nothing exceptional but the Thai City restaurant just off Concordiaplatz was quite good

I can't comment on value for money as we paid in Airmiles - just under 1200 per night. The room tariff I saw looked quite expensive but then I think central Vienna is.

My wife and I stayed from Monday to Saturday. Would we go back? Yes. What's more, K + K have a total of 9 hotels and I would certainly look for example at their hotel in Budapest, if I were going there, because they clearly have set a certain standard.

Good place to stay

My mother and I just spent 2 nights in this hotel, using their Wiener Lebensfreude special offer. This gave us 2 nights accommodation with full American breakfast, a 72 hour Vienna pass and tickets for the Grand Tour at Schloss Schonbrunn. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. This is my second stay at K+K Palais in 2 years. I think it is very comfortable, clean and modern. The hotel offers free internet in the hotel lobby, which is a bonus. Most importantly, though, it is located in a very nice, quiet area (I've stayed in other hotels nearby before, where you hear sirens going all night). We were 5 minutes walk from Schwedenplatz (one of the key stations of the u-bahn(subway) system) and 10 minutes walk from Stephansplatz and the Graben (which then leads on to other areas such as the Hofburg Palace etc). My mother and I felt very safe walking around in this area at night. I must say we did notice a huge police presence in the area. I'm not sure if that is a regular thing or for a special reason. We also discovered that the airport bus (€ 6 one way) picks you up and drops you off in Morzinplatz, which was really close to the hotel, and not too far to drag the heavy suitcase!! It runs every half hour. We discovered this AFTER I asked the hotel receptionist about airport buses. She told me there was nothing nearby but that they offered a personal driving service to the airport for € 33. I think the bus is better value (unless you have too much luggage to carry, and spare cash!).

I also thoroughly recommend the nearby Artemis Greek restaurant, tucked away in Griechengasse, just off Rotenturm strasse. The food was excellent, as were the prices. After a hard day of walking around and seeing the sites and museums, the hearty meals offered at this restaurant were fantastic!

Great value hotel for any visitor to Vienna

from Nimblefeet
Stayed for five nights with my wife. Rudolfsplatz is probably the quietest square in th area but only a stone's throw from lively areas and good, reasonable restuarants as well as the city centre, 10 mins walk away. The restaurant 'Greichenbeisl' in the Fleischmarkt is 7 minutes away and a real treat for a reasonably-priced meal out in a super atmosphere with a first class menu. Highly convenient for the Metro and trams going around the Ring in either direction. Certainly ideal for reaching all parts of Vienna in the shortest time possible. Extremely convenient when travelling to and from the airport.

The hotel has character and was spotlessly clean and well serviced. Room was quiet and we had a choice of room on arrival; air-conditioning was a god-send and operated quietly but effectively. Room and en-suite bathroon had excellent facilities. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Breakfast had a wide range of choice for this sort of hotel, and had high quality food and drinks, very clean and well presented, as well as being constantly serviced with replacement food as it was used.

Overall the hotel acconmmodation and breakfast represented good value for money, and a pleasant place to stay altogether.

We would thoroughly recommend the hotel to visitors to central Vienna, as well as those wanting to travel furthr afield, as all the main stations were easily accessible by public transport closeby. Good for anyone wanting to be in the centre of Vienna, who wants a quieter location. Good also for disabled visitors with convenient and easily negotiated facities. We agreed we would definitely stay there again.

Also handy for boat trips on the Danube (Donau), though would not recommend the DDSG "Johann Strauss" evening trip! We thought food on this was poor value and the trip lacked any interesting commentary or the atmosphere for a romantic evening which we would have expected.

Good quiet location

Stayed with my wife for four nights at this hotel. Wasn't first choice, but rooms were available at good rates. This hotel is located in a nice quiet square, with easy access to the Metro and to the trams (Routes 1 and 2) on the Ring. We found it an ideal location to get easily to all parts of Vienna.

The hotel is essentially a business class hotel, but seemed to have more character than the norm for these. Rooms were good sized and clean with good facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful. During our stay the breakfast area was undergong major refurbishment, but the work did not in any way impact our stay, which is praiseworthy in itself. The breakfast buffet was very tasty and included in our price so was very good value.

Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be in the centre of Vienna, but wants a quieter location. I would definitely stay there again.

K&K palais is a gem

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the K&K Palais Hotel in October and I was really impressed, especially with the bountiful champagne breakfast which was the perfect antidote to jet lag!

On the morning of the Presidential debate, we woke up at 3 to watch the debate on CNN, then went down to the breakfast room, ate scrambled eggs, ham, bacon and lots of other goodies and champagne, then went back to the room and slept until about 10:30.

The rooms, minimalist in design, are warmed by soft yellow walls and honey coloured wood wainscoting. The beds were delicious; soft and welcoming with lovely down comforters to snuggle in to. Our room had two comfortable chairs, a desk and luggage rack, plenty of closet space and there were good reading lights.

The staff was always helpful, fluent in English and quick to give advice about restaurants or call a cab when we ventured out.

When patrons of a nearby bar spilled out to the street very late one night, we called the front desk and asked that they be quieted. Within minutes, the police were there to break up what sounded like an angry political argument. Vienna, it seems cannot escape it's past as a center of political ferment.

Not my first choice

from allanmc
One of the few hotels that offer a free internet service. Good location and very clean.

Well designed rooms and a decent sized bathroom.

A nice touch for breakfast is the bottle of champagne that sits on the breakfast buffet. While this hotel has numerous good points, including a nice wine bar located 100mt away, the reception staff are extremley rude and unhelpful.

In all my travels I have never experienced such rudeness on check-in.

Should the management do something about their staffs attitude to the guests, I would recommend this hotel, otherwise take your money elsewhere.

My experience at this hotel from one staff member in particular has made me determined not to use or recommend any hotel from this K+K chain.

Your money is better spent at other properties.

Good Value

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at this hotel in August 2004 and found it to be excellent value for money - good location and clean, reasonably sized rooms. We had never stayed in a K & K Hotel before, but would definately use them again.

The buffet breakfast offered a good choice of hot and cold food and the staff were pleasant.

The only downside is the reception and bar area is small and when we asked for drinks at the bar at 10.30pm, we were told it was closed !!!!

Weekend in Vienna

from A TripAdvisor Member
I agree with the earlier review - the hotel is very clean, modern, functional and the staff friendly plus it's reasonably priced. Breakfast was very good and had a good mix of cereals/fruit/pastries and hot food. This is a great hotel for a weekend away -it's only 5 mins walk from the main areas in Vienna and a couple of minutes walk from the tram. There probably are other hotels of a similar price in Vienna but this was good. There are other K&K hotels round Europe and I would consider staying at one of these hotels again if available. If you're thinking about going to Vienna then go for the Christmas markets in December.

Fine if uninspiring hotel

from Eric_Johansen
I stayed in this hotel in December 2003, and for the price I paid I was quite happy. The rooms did not have much of a view to speak of, but were very well appointed and, most importantly, spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel is within easy walking distance of the main area for places to eat and drink.

The only criticism of the hotel would be that the lobby bar is quite small, and not really suitable for relaxing in, which would make me try another hotel on a subsequent visit.

Overall this is a safe choice if you don't have any other recommendations on where to stay in Vienna. I'm sure there are better hotels for the price, but I'm sure there are worse too.
