After a 4 hour bus ride we arrive in La Fortuna, a small town owing it's popularity to it's location at the bottom of the slopes of Volcan Arenal.
It was like ants scurrying around a mistimed lick of an ice cream. Once the sweet smell of vanilla money had touch the tarmac touts busied themselves around, So many business cards and tour leaflets were thrust in our direction we could almost feel a breeze from their movement.
We settled on a large purple ...
... ret smal.
La fortuna, Costa Rica tanjahvid... next day we were supposed to go snorkeling at 3 different places and then go scuba diving but the unusual winds were so strong they could not take the boat out. So we ended up just talking to the local fisherman and then went and 'studied' the intertidal zone or beach if you will. That night we tried to go to the beach again to see the bioluminescence, there was a sighting of a coral snake so some people were too scared to go down to the beach, but we didn't have any problems ...
Santa Cruz, Costa Rica tanjahvid... how close to the edge we were and how much water was gushing along the road! Once at Santa Elena we spent a pretty relaxing afternoon walking around in the rain until we got too cold and found a cafe that had a play station and english tv so settled in for a while. Walking around didn{t take long...about 5 minutes through Santa Elena, another 5 minutes to Monteverde and about 1 minute in Monteverde! Very small and quiet place and hard to see around becuase of the low cloud and rainy mist.
La Fortuna, Costa Rica kimbos... a turquoise lagoon of icy cool water. It was to us, what it is to a person lost in a desert who suddenly finds a pool of water in front of him. The place is so far away from civilisation that we had the place all to ourselves for an hour before the next hiker arrived. On our way back, we stopped at a another lagoon nearer to the starting point of the trail and sighted some capuchins monkeys. The first wildlife spotted in the day.
Liberia, Province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica ccheng... can go to this viewing area at night and it looked super cool in the photos so I was really excited to do this but...next time I guess. The other main focus is the adventure activities, like that waterfall rapelling which would have been amazing, some of the waterfalls were like 160 feet yikes. The main square is mostly just tourist shops... However on my first day here I treated myself to a lovely full body massage...there was a ...
La Fortuna, Costa Rica hildine... the bus. suzi's bus came first, a local bus to the captial city Managua, where she was off to volunteer some more. Hugs ensued as we bayed her farewell. Nicole and i were catching the same bus, at least for an hour. I paid a whopping $20 for a lush Tica Bus ride to costa rica, and Nicole paid just a few bucks to get to Rivas. We sat in the front of our fancy bus, with deep coushy seats and a TV for movies. We laughed about everything we'd done and the ...
Liberia, Costa Rica travel.junkie... keeping sort it out as it's been in the same state as when the last guests left. Today is also the first day I've felt well - I've been fighting off a bug from the Boston winter and went to bed, embarassingly enough, at 7 last night. But Jennah's friend Tina doesn't arrive until tomorrow so at least I'll be rested for some girls' nights out. Jay's also booked a ticket to come down for a couple of days next ...
Villas Sol, Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica lianaWe´ve only got the car for a few more days, so we headed for more surf. While leaving Santa Teresa, the owner of our hotel was no where to be found, and his competition was trying to blockade us in. I convinced him that his problems were not my problems, so he let us through. Time to find a town with more sunshine! Our goal was Tamarindo, a super developed resort town on the north end of the Nicoya Pennisula. Our first chosen route had a pretty big river crossing ...
