Spent the day in Aberdeen today, a very wet Scottish day but warm, so not much outdoor exploring. Unfortunately Balmoral Castle was closed so could not visit nor play a round of golf at St Andrews!! Aberdeen is a very floral town with baskets of flowers everywhere. The main street has pennants of all countries strung from one side of the road to the other.

Put the rain jackets on and walked along the old railway line from ...

Picked up our Mercedes rental car and off we went. Left Edinburgh heading for Aberdeen with a few detours on the way and a change of plan more than once!!! Think that's all I need to say.

Spent nearly two hours in a cafe with free wifi trying to find somewhere to stay in Aberdeen. Managed to get a room and when we turned up the reservation had not come through ...

... near Golspie. This was the family home to the 1st seven Dukes of Sutherland, and is still the home of the 93year old countess of Sutherland, she inherited the property but not the title when their wasn't a male heir to the 7th Duke. Her uncle inherited the title, but none of the wealth....I know what I would have preferred. At the castle there was a bird handler, a falconer, who did a performance on handling and training, falcons, ...

... style: normal; font-weight: normal;">A Mum and her three kids came through work. Not a huge deal right? What if I tell you how different they looked? The youngest kid had brown curly hair, and blue grey eyes with light olive skin. The next one up had blond straight hair, slightly darker skin and light brown eyes. The eldest had curly orange hair, fair freckled skin and blue eyes. And the mum? Jet black hair, dark brown eyes and dark olive skin! WHAT?!
