Awake at 0600 dressed, breakfast & left at 0830 for our morning trip to Salzburg. And sunshine as we leave Innsbruck. As we leave onto motorway there is quite a blockage on the oncoming side ( fortunately ) trucks ++ probably due to a religious holiday tomorrow. Trucks are not permitted on highway on weekends or public holidays. We arrived in Salzburg 10am after a short toilet stop just before. As we were too early to check into our hotel we met a ...

The train ride was 3 hours ...

On the way to the fortress we discovered some beautiful buildings, a giant gold ball, a vendor selling sweet pretzels and stumbled upon the oldest bakery in Salzburg, Stiftsbäckerei St. Peter. Outside the bakery is a mill that catches water running down the mountain and whirls along. The bakery has mentions ...

... cuddled up with 1 or 2 buddies, flung your legs over the slide rails, and whooshed down 42m in about 5 seconds. Super fun. Then there was a most considerate escalator back up to the surface. You did have to don some seriously daggy protective clothing that the sign said had to be tucked it. Wearing it on top of all your warm clothing made for Michelin man impersonations big time!

All in all - Salzburg... I recommend ...
