Sound of Music: When I last left you, I was heading out to the Sound of Music bus excursion. Smaltzy, but I loved it. 50 years ago, in 1965, the movie was made here in Salzburg (and indoor scenes inside in a Hollywood studio). We went to all the sites of major parts of the film, saw many familiar buildings and recognizable sites, and learned about fact and fiction regarding the Von Trapps. Our guide was an Austrian from Salzburg, who had lived in Boston for 10 years some years ...

With destination and purpose yesterday, I walked down near Mirabell Palace where I knew I could find a good little tour company for getting the lay of the land in Salzburg and surrounds. The play was about the life of Maria Ward - she originally came from England. As a catholic nun she sought out to educate the ...

... the night. Its been a little tricky having no 3G access overseas - relying totally on wifi when we get it at the places we stay. Luckily this morning I had taken several screenshots of potential places to stay in Fussen. One of these had the required vacancy so we pulled up for the night, ate pizza at the place next door and Connor had a banana split (for his birthday he said, since we didn't get him any cake for that occasion). Happy days.

... These kids have done flips on the beaches on Spain, ice skated on the Eiffel Tower on Christmas Eve, got to feel the Disney magic as a child at Disneyland, walked the Tower Bridge in London, explored numerous medieval castles, learned to snowboard/ski on the Swiss Alps, and countless other unforgettable experiences.

    While some people may ...
