... this area so friendly. Families were all speaking to us and getting their children to say "hello'. We met a lovely old lady on the bridge in Changsha who told me I was beautiful and desperately wanted to have her photo taken with us. This is an area where they see many Chinese tourists, but very few foreigner tourists.

A really fantastic day, and definitely the highlight of our holiday for me!

The train was old and the facilities were not as good as when I traveled on a Chinese overnight train previously. This one had squat toilets and a wash hand unit which was stained and flaking and had clearly seen better days. Not a 5 star experience, but a Chinese experience nonetheless!

... knots. There, we were educated in a number of things. There was a bit more singing and chanting than what I’d prefer, but, a free seminar is a free seminar.

Afterwards, after the tea, the same people then turned our attention to traditional Chinese knots. Chinese knots are what I’d describe as ornaments composed mainly of red string and assorted beads. Perhaps not as interesting as the tea, it was however nice to work with your hands. I myself could not ...
