I said "hi", and he smiled and said “fine”. We made that a routine, in which every day I worked in the injection room and he would come in the room to clean, we would greet each other just like that. I understood that he would have liked to say more, but his English was lacking, so that was as far as our conversation would go. Paul is a sweet guy who I met my first day at the injection room, when he came in ...

Today we headed to the child welfare wing of the Tigoni District Hospital. This wing is used to see both mother and children who are ill, malnourished, or dehydrated. The line is often very long so they need a lot of help just collecting vitals and information about the children. Today I manned the check-in station and my duties consisted of taking each child’s temperature, weight, height, and administering the appropriate dose of ...

Today we accompanied the MPH students to the TopMark High school to help teach about malaria. When we arrived we were greeted by the school principal, who I had mistaken to be one of the students, since he looked so young. The school itself is several rooms put together and separated by corrugated steel, which also made up the ...

Last night, it did not rain, but poured cats and dogs, as the temperature dropped near freezing, which here is considered to be 50 degrees Fahrenheit. It was refreshing, but cold enough for people here to consider it a snow day. The dog next door was up barking again around 3am, and he continued to bark for what it seemed to be hours, not allowing me
to sleep. If the owner can’t find his dog tomorrow, it wasn’t me. For breakfast we had the ...
