What did i know from porto alegre before arriving? Practically nothing. The brazil guide book doesn't tell much about the city. Florianopolis, my last destination before arriving here is a touristic hotspot but porto alegre doesn't seem to have much touristic movement. Maybe that's because there are no nice beaches nearby. Or tourists rather go to the interior of the gaucho state than to visit the big city (ca. 1.4 million inhabitants according to wikipedia). So ...

... different from what I imagined from my small town experience of living in Rio Grande do Sul. Porto Alegre is really diverse in people and they have a really cool culture. When I was walking around the city on Sunday, there were so many people out and about, driving mate, practicing capoeira and generally just enjoying the nice day.

... is quite simple but involves lots of meat, cheese and beans and is very comforting and delicious), and the desire to actually see what the country has to offer. Due to the above mentioned factors I was much less social and touristy than I normally am on business trips so I can't even really say that I got a good feeling for the country. I would very much like to on another adventure though!
