    ... s Quarters bookends the old Fort Winnebago. Again a great history stop, highly recommended. The canal connecting the two drainages runs right along side it. It opened with such great hopes in 1876, but superseded by both the Illinois/Michigan canal and railroads it never reached its full potential. Today it lies closed and stagnant.

    ... here. There are numerous orchards. We stopped at one today and sampled cherry everything. From cherry fudge to cherry salsa. Oh, we did leave with fresh cherry donuts in hand.     ... this late in the season, but a very nice little pub in town, the Cornerstone, has been feeding me and keeping me entertained. The first night here I stopped in to get some food and sat at the bar next to an elderly woman. She turned out to be Linda, the unofficial 'mayor' of Baileys Harbor, who knows everyone and everything. She sort of took me under her wing that first night, telling me where to go and what to see and has checked in with me each evening ...

    ... The other four times were in Michigan over the last two days. Each time, the Michigan Department of Public Works saw fit to announce this important passage. It's the halfway point between the Equator and the North Pole (did you know that? I didn't). We crossed it in Wisconsin this afternoon and the only demarcation was the 44th Parallel Winery. Wisconsin is clearly much less impressed with it's singular geography.
