Bangalore, Karnātaka, India darkstar... built around the central temple, all of which is about the size of a tennis court.

I like visiting that temple, and others, particularly when I have prints to give out. During Diwali I got a batch of 75 pictures printed and wandered around handing them out to the people in them. Reactions ranged from bemused to delighted, and curios passersby were highly entertained as well. In Shivajinagar shopkeepers and traders were happy with the unexpected ...

Bangalore, Karnataka, India indiatrip2009... names, though. It's not a good excuse, but the unique syllables/sounds that make up most of the names here is hard enough for my mind to process, nonetheless trying to remember all of the 30+ names of people I've been meeting each day. With time, this will hopefully be less of a problem.

Jeremy gave me a tour of the full campus this morning (Saturday), including the small (25' x 15') campus general store. Hosur, Tamil Nadu, India texaspeytonAfter my brief layover in London, I continued on the second leg of my air travel to India courtesy of a British Airways flight to Bangalore. Other than the tasty and spicy Indian meals [briani (sp.?), masala, etc], the first of many to come in the following weeks, offered on this 10-hour flight, there's not much to write about (I watched a movie, but don't even recall which one it was?!). Touching ground in Bangalore ...
Bangalore, Karnataka, India texaspeyton... waiting for the van, beggars started coming up to us. Ian Correa had a cool way of handling this. He said he gives money to people who appear to really have disabilities or are too old to work. If a young man comes up to him begging for money who appears to be healthy and able to work, he encourages them to work. So I quickly adopted that and encouraged my family to do the same.
Bangalore, Karnataka, India jdcasazza... he thought it too god a deal to pass up; Mike, quite rightly, thought it a joke to spend such a paltry amount on an engagement ring; the most important purchase he will make in his life, until he and Ornella buy a house. Mike will keep looking - he has a few more weeks to find the perfect ring at the right price. Ornella, you're a lucky girl! :-) Exhausted, we return to Mike's, where he opens a good Bordeaux he brought from Paris, and I fall asleep watching a DVD.
Bangalore, Karnataka, India darafly... compared to the "meals" (thalis) I've been mostly having in the south. It had more bread and paneer (cheese) which made a nice change. Also had falooda - not to be confused with falooja - the other day in Ooty. It's a mix of all things dessert-like: ice cream, syrup, sprinkles, fresh fruit. The whole nine yards, honestly. There's something really American about a dessert like that....
Bangalore, India motionpicture... fit together and seem to be part of each other but the picture doesn't flow on sight. It's very different from home. At one point during the trip we were stopped at a traffic light. At the intersection there were street vendors selling things and beggars or urchins as Shali calls them. There was a man that was selling mosquito nets that looked like racquets or something like that... and there was a woman with a baby that came to the car ...
