Today we were unable to go to the lavender fields like we had planned, so we improvised. Sapporro being the beer capital of Japan, we headed to the beer museum. Fascinating though it was, we were still below Japan's drinking age and therefore felt a little left out of the festivities. ... time, we went back to the hotel for showers and changes of clothes. A friend of the Yamanka's travel agent came by and treated us to a night on the town. He was the owner of a mexican restaurant in Sapporro (who knew?) and took us there to eat. After that we went wayyyy out into the boondocks to a public bath. ... also how the Japanese did in Asia and Pacific during the war. We should keep remembering how cruel those were, but again, not to blame, but not to forget for our future.
There are still many wars and violence going on in the world. Japan and Japanese people really should take this role to send the message out to the world, "war is not the answer, violence wouldn't solve anything in a long run".

... existence and contributions. A small town of Nibutani (Biratori) still has many populations of Ainu. At the bus stop, I was asked where I came from from an older lady. I said, "Hawaii". She just told me "thank you for coming all the way from Hawaii. It must be really cold here for you". It's summer, but yeah, it was a bit chilly for me. Next summer I hope to come back to Hokkaido and drive around, and I'd like to talk to more people. I am already looking forward to it!

... a huge clock tower that upon every hour opened up exposing dancing animals. Upon walking in the big gates of the chocolate factory a smile came across everyone's face. We took pictures in the small garden in the little Euro-style village before making our way in the building. Tickets were 600yen to get in and came with a sample of the chocolate factory's little chocolate biscuit (apparently these little guys are only available in Hokkaido). ... to mention all the Yebisu Black we could drink (ah, my mouth's watering now as I write). Eager to get our money's worth (within the first half hour at least), we thought "stuff the vegies, lamb's more expensive". In total we ended up getting 5 or 6 plates of lamb (sorry, details are a little fuzzy for the rest of that night). However, we did notice that each plate of lamb came back smaller and smaller until we were finally left with an entrée size. Mike had about 4.5 pints ...
