... to Alanya, I opted to take the coach this time instead of hitch hiking. I got into the station at 6:30 and then took a city bus to get closer to the beach. I think I was pretty much in the wrong neighbourhood for cheap hotels but was able to negotiate a room down from 50 to 30 TL. The apartment had a living room, kitchen, dining area and bedroom!

Now for a walk-about town for the evening...

Alanya, Antalya, Turkey stephanberlin... among others). According to our guide book Silifke is also known for the fact that Frederick Barbarossa died there. He drowned in the Goksu river while leading his troops on the third Crusade. Robert's history teacher at high school always told that he was thrown from his horse and fell into one of his sharp "tools of the trade", drowning is less glamorous for a warlord isn't it? Apart from birds and beautiful medieval castles, the Eastern ...
Alanya, Turkish Mediterranean Coast, Turkey robertandtanja... were huge drops on these narrow parts where they had piled up sand to do the road at a later date. Damo's expert driving got us through and once we arrived in Alanya it was off for some drinks (only 2 each as $8 for a beer) before crashing at 2am. As it is really just a drinking place we didn't take any photos of Alanya. Alanya is a haven for Germans and Scandinavians ...
Alanya, Antalya, Turkey kazanddamo... Roman ruins and an equally large amount of touristy shops and restaurants. I didn't care much for the commercialism (although the bellydance outfits were a little bit better quality) but the ruins were awesome, and the only part I saw that charged admission (the Roman Theater) was 5 Turkish Lira. That's less than 4 dollars/3 Euros/2 Pounds. Compare that with 11 Euros a head to get into the ruins in Rome!
Side, Turkey danbirchall... open by the river. Ants and I chose the under the stars option and it was another relaxing evening playing with the puppies(tree house owners 4 fluffy wee things) and a couple of quiets after a scramble up the gorge. Yesterday was a drive day with only a short stop for lunch and a shop in Kos. We in Olympos now some more ruins and a relaxing day at the beach. Gotta fly so more latter Cy and Ants

Salcuk, Turkey ants... I should be ticking things off some imaginary list that I compile which invariably involve hiking or scrambling (definetely an expenditure of effort is required) to see some off the beaten track sight or ruin. But Ill console myself by saying that this sort of a day is necessary to act as a buffer zone every now and again - and by going to visit Termessos - which is some ancient ruins of the beaten track tommorow! Ok so another rest day for TIPO. Cheers Wadirunner.
Antalya, Turkey wadirunnerYo. Well just a quick entry today. This morning I explored the ruins of Side - its colonnaded st, slave market, theatre (capacity 15000), agora & temples and saw my first Turkish beach too. Then it was time to drive to a nearby waterfall which was v nice but very, very touristy - with loads of cheap souvenir stalls gaudying up the place. Ýf Cappadocia was full of Frenchies then so far ...

And I got lucky with the timing of an Ýlhara bound bus from Aksary to get me back to TÝPO where Id parked in Ilhara village. Last night I stayed in the westernmost Cap city of Aksary 45km north of Ýlhara and this morn after a bfast where I finished off a ...
