... weird seeing her plate come out but I tried a little fish and it wasn't so bad. I decided to test out the after dinner drink Limonceno (lemoncello) for desert. Whoa! It was much stronger than I have ever had in the US. It was good but one was plenty as my throat was burning from all the alcohol. Then the waiter brought drinks that were on the house... oh lordy. It was a glass of a desert wine, very sweet, but after splitting a bottle of wine, my limonceno, and the wine I was ...
Manarola, Italian Riviera, Italy t.rosile... going to hike as far as my wee tired legs will take me today, and then take the ferry back to Riomaggiore, its a bit of an expense but a view that cannot be beat!

So I'm starting today at Riomaggiore, taking a 30 minute walk to Manarola, then about 45 minutes to Corniglia, 90 minutes to Vernazza and maybe 2 hours to Monterosso al Mare, the last stint I may forgo as it's, I hear built for Oylimpic atheletes so ...
Cinque Terre, Liguria, Italy benitalutzTucked away along the Mediterranean Sea is a lovely little place called Cinque Terre (Five Lands). It is a collection of five fishing villages sprinkled along the steep and rocky cliffs of the Italian Riviera. The buildings are clustered pastel specs on the edges of the coastline. Surrounding these villages are uniquely terraced vineyards, which produce a white wine ...
Cinque Terre, Liguria, Italy travelingmoores
Tuscan Riviera Portovenere
Had seen it on Getaway and looked very pretty.. Found a hotel with sea views and have spent 2 nights here resting , climbing around local castles… eating sleeping and watching the boats go in and out… not much English here but we are not hungry or thirsty so all going well….
Tomorrow we are off to the South of France.. 3 nights planned in Nice.. Really looking forward to it but have loved Italy…
Portovenere, Italian Riviera, Italy smithoshea... choppy, our tour guide decided the best thing to do would be to take the boat to the far end of Cinque Terra, disembark, and then take the train back to La Spezia where our bus was waiting. Since the trains are so much faster, this also bought us more time in each of the towns to sightsee.

If you haven't been to or haven't heard of Cinque Terra, put it on your list of places to see immediately. It's both an Italian ...
Riomaggiore, Liguria, Italy hertogheAfter travelling for the last 6 or more months without a real break we thought we might just settle down for the winter, instead of heading back to London and back to work. We are plonking ourselves with some of Dino's relatives in Tuscany.
Shona can't speak a word of Italian, but is planning to learn and not one of Dino's relatives speaks English. It should be an interesting few months.
We ...
Carrara, Tuscany, Italy dinoshona... I went to find out about snorkel trips and Andrew and Kathy went to do their own thing. I think most of us couples wanted to share the day in Cinque Terra doing our own thing, but we agreed to meet with the rest of the group at 6pm at the last town’s train station to find a place for dinner.
We got directions to the dive shop and went to see about doing a snorkeling boat trip later that day. They said that they leave at 2pm so we decided to walk between the towns then ...
La Spezia, Italian Riviera, Italy kimmykak... our nautical design/history class. We waited for a half hour, but no one showed up. I went to the secretary's office and asked where the professor was and she responded that he was probably on 'Italian time.' By which she meant that he would be showing up 45 minutes to an hour late. We waited for a full hour before returning to the office and learning that perhaps the teacher had cancelled the class. On the plus side we were done at 4 pm instead of 6 pm ...
La Spezia, Italy papayaprincess... on doing the Cinque terra walk on the Ligurian coast of Italy (north west coastline). This walk winds its way from the sea to cliff-top villages over 5 (i.e. Cinque in Italian) villages. The views are spectacular from the walk and the swim in the Mediterranean at the end was well worth it. Here are some of the views and villages we saw today. Not every village main street has boats parked in it!
La Spezia, Italy mikealinda... only 10 Euro - full meal and very good. Walk in the dark, past the barking dogs to a small village nearby in search of an ATM. Thank goodness I found it- thanks in part to an elderly woman - as was just about in front of it. Grazie mille.
