Day 10: Easy riding. Amandola - Abbadia di Fiastra

... archway under the clock and down hill on the main road to Macerata, a major town about 30 km from the Adriatic coast. We are actually headed to the Abbadia di Fiastra which is only 37 km away, and 12 km short of Macerata. This is a reasonably busy road, gently undulating through forest, farmland, and small towns with associated businesses and industries. We stop for coffee and cake at the hill town of ...

Today we travelled up the coast to Sirolo which is just down from Ancona and it was picturesque all the way. Tiny Italians towns on hilltops with large churches dominating the town. All along the coast is built up and it seems to be a continuous city but with lovely house colours that are set off with the blue of the ocean in the background. The litter seems to have gone mostly for now which is great to see. We are in the National Park of Conero and this area is the Riviera of ...

A good mix of rest, relaxation and opportunities to get off and enjoy the ports. Have been disappointed with the food, and most of the service also. We are hoping to enjoy better Italian cuisine in the weeks ahead.

As we were coming to the end of our stay in Macerata, we took some snaps of the lovely aparthotel where we stayed. We'd also seen some Roman ruins on our travels so went back to visit them and discovered an amphitheatre used as a venue for concerts ...

          The Bracciale tournament

Treia is one of the prettiest villages in the Marche. We were fortunate to visit on Monday after the rain had caused the village to cancel the bracciale tournament final the day before - so the final was being played the day we were there - result !! So what is a Bracciale tournament I hear you say - well its a team game - 3 per team, each wearing a wooden bracciale on their hands/wrists used to whack a 20lb ball. ...
