    Day 61 - Ancona

Hi everyone today we dr0ve to Ancona to catch the ferry to Croatia. On the way we stopped at a typical Italian beach covered in deck chairs and umbrellas. We chose a place for lunch and set up on the deck chairs for a while on the beach. There are so many chairs that unless you are in the front row you cant actually gaze at the beach you just look at the back of other peoples deck chairs. Also because you are all so close together its a bit ...

... all rushed to board the last car just before it started. All the seats were taken. We had to make our way from car to car on a moving train carrying our luggage. No easy task. Finally on the third car we found empty seats and collapsed down for our two-hour plus ride to Ancona. After a few stops the conductor started in our car to check tickets. We noticed that he told several groups to leave and go to another car. Well all of a sudden ...

So after cancelling some of our plans and accommodation we were told there wasn't any availability for hotels for Mugello. We decided we'd go to Rossi's village Tavullia and then make plans from there.

I started searching for hotels again about an hour out of port and one place messaged back to say they had a cancellation and the price was very reasonable.

So here we are finally in Mugello seeing a GP race, staying in ...

... we book in for was 2pm. This was perfect, so we pulled out our antipasto picnic lunch and feasted on some delicious salumi, bresaola (my favourite), prosciutto and some very stinky cheese. Yum! All that was missing was the vino. I could definitely get used to eating Italian cuisine.

The caves were incredible, and the initial cave was huge, much bigger than any other cave we've been in. The stalactites and stalagmites were huge and some pure white. They'd ...

    Exploring Ancona

... the weekend most things were shut and we couldn't go in, the one downside to getting out of the big cities I guess, but the architecture was amazing. After a few hours of exploring we walked back down for another antipasto platter and another glass of wine for lunch. The streets were deserted, and the shops had all closed, even though it was only 2:30 in the afternoon. However, while we were having lunch the initially deserted streets became bustling with people and the shops all ...
