A repeat performance

... area. Well, since I had been told it existed I went in with more confidence. Indeed. It was the LARGEST seating area of any of the pizza contestants. There was a small area next to the kitchen that was off a small entry way -- hidden from the street. Then upstairs there were at least 4 rooms with simple chairs and tables. Just waiting to be the lucky support of some delicious pizza.

I ordered the Buffala pizza. Mozzarella di Buffala (HEY! Does that mean from Buffalo milk ...

Pompeii - Mitch, this one's for you.

... to see EVERYTHING. The coast, Capri, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius -- everything. I'm sure you won't be shocked to read that Pompeii received the only check mark. I have plenty of excuses for why that was but I have no regrets. And it doesn't hurt having a reason to want to return to Italy. As if I was lacking one!

Pompeii was amazing. (Quick side note, I am utterly confused whether it's Pompei or Pompeii. It's one of those ...

Prego prego

From Rome we headed south to Positano. Once in Sorento we hired a cab to take us the rest away the way, along a very narrow winding road about 150 meters above the sea. For this driver the lines dividing the highway were merely suggestions and blind corners ************cern. The views were spectacular, however the cliff edge road ...

Almafi Coast

... umbrella and raincoat got soaked through to our underwear! Next day it rained hard too but did not mind a lazy day with no sightseeing. The city of Naples has a few nice areas but is a really dirty city and one day of sightseeing was plenty. Seeing Naples and Mt. Vesuvius from a distance is the best way to see them but south of Naples and the Almafi coast is not to be missed.

Ruby Tuesday !

... as we depart and leave the Bay of Naples, we sail south through the Messina Straits around the toe of Italy toward the Greek Island of Mykonos. But we don't arrive there until October 1st, so that means we enjoy a relaxing day at sea! So far, the weather has been fantastic! Very warm temperatures and little to no cloud! Hope it continues! Se ya tomorrow! Ciao! Rick & Elsie!

Naples

... another TI office. Then I asked how to get to Naples. The staff was kind and told me to take a long distance bus and showed me its timetable. But if I had taken the bus, I would have arrived in Naples in the evening. Actually, I had a plan to go sightseeing after arrival in Naples on that day. In fact, there was another route by train via Taranto, which looked a better choice at least at the moment. I don't like long distance buses and I wanted to leave the boring city ...

Pompeii

We have been on the go lately with unreliable internet access. Train travel is very difficult with a large family and LOTS of luggage! We managed to unload 10 of us (each with a large suitcase and carry on - including 3 kids 10 & under) from the train in Aversa in 3 minutes!!! What a feet!!! CherylAnn lives in Naples. She drove us in her imported minivan to Pompeii. OH MY GOD!!! I thought we were all going to die! She easily hit 100mph on the ...

Last update from Italy

... of getting back to our Hostel. After much stress, talking with those around (who were also stranded), we finally found 2 English people who agreed to go into a taxi and share the fare with us. We had to pay $120 Euro (nearly $240.00) for the journey back! We were all so angry and upset at the outrageous cost, however had no option but to pay. That would have to be the most expensive taxi ride of my life!!! Exhausted and fed up we have finally arrived ...

The Best Pizza in the World

... We soaked up the sun, but took a rain check on the swim. It amused me greatly to see two fully clad German tourists in mountain boots and safari getup, hiking up the beach with their ski poles. When will they learn? After a few toasty hours in the warm Italian sun, we sojourned back to the bus and on to the ferry back to crazy Naples. Cruising a smooth pace along the water, i stared outside the ferry window at the cliffside villages and islands that surrounded the Napoli region ...
