From Rome we headed south to Positano. Once in Sorento we hired a cab to take us the rest away the way, along a very narrow winding road about 150 meters above the sea. The city of Naples has a few nice areas but is a really dirty city and one day of sightseeing was plenty. Seeing Naples and Mt. Vesuvius from a distance is the best way to see them but south of Naples and the Almafi coast is not to be missed.

... as we depart and leave the Bay of Naples, we sail south through the Messina Straits around the toe of Italy toward the Greek Island of Mykonos. We have been on the go lately with unreliable internet access. Train travel is very difficult with a large family and LOTS of luggage! We managed to unload 10 of us (each with a large suitcase and carry on - including 3 kids 10 & under) from the train in Aversa in 3 minutes!!! What a feet!!! CherylAnn lives in Naples. ... of getting back to our Hostel. After much stress, talking with those around (who were also stranded), we finally found 2 English people who agreed to go into a taxi and share the fare with us. We had to pay $120 Euro (nearly $240.00) for the journey back! We were all so angry and upset at the outrageous cost, however had no option but to pay. That would have to be the most expensive taxi ride of my life!!! Exhausted and fed up we have finally arrived ...

... We soaked up the sun, but took a rain check on the swim. It amused me greatly to see two fully clad German tourists in mountain boots and safari getup, hiking up the beach with their ski poles. When will they learn? After a few toasty hours in the warm Italian sun, we sojourned back to the bus and on to the ferry back to crazy Naples. Cruising a smooth pace along the water, i stared outside the ferry window at the cliffside villages and islands that surrounded the Napoli region ...
