Jolly Cagliari

We landed bang on time in Cagliari. The warm air was lovely and the three of us felt so excited; we had met up with Bradley Mullen at Luton just as we were boarding, so were able to travel together and share our excitement.

Mike was there to collect us from the airport, we were in his car packed high with bags and two massive cases between Kevin and I in the back. Wow.

The place we are going to today is Pula and more specifically the ruins of the ancient city of Nora. This city enjoyed the status of being the main city on Sardinia, being utilised by the Phoenicians and the Romans – it was thought to be abandoned around the 7th Century. The sea has, over time, claimed parts of the old city, so some of the ruins lay under the sea today. The ruins that can be seen are fairly substantial ...

After lunch we walk back to the monastery, take a look at the map and decide to drive out on another piece of headland to a lighthouse – I like doing this because you often find wild stretches of coastline that are nice for walking. We decided that it was too late to go anywhere else now, and when we came past the monastery earlier it was completely deserted. There is a very inviting pool to take a dip in, so we make ourselves at home there for a couple of hours, reading, writing and swimming. I kinda already took this plunge when living in Krasnoyarsk for six months, but at least there I had internet at an extreme limitation!
