The Eagle has landed

We landed bang on time in Cagliari. The warm air was lovely and the three of us felt so excited; we had met up with Bradley Mullen at Luton just as we were boarding, so were able to travel together and share our excitement.

Mike was there to collect us from the airport, we were in his car packed high with bags and two massive cases between Kevin and I in the back. Wow.

Second Last stop....

... Australian girl in her late 20's or early 30's lying on the floor beside my seat that really made me glad I was going home soon. For the past 4 years she pretty much has been traveling and she looked it too. Her face looked like an old baseball mit and I don't think she had washed the bottom of her feet in the last 4 years! She was explaining how traveling is so great and how she didn't have any money, lived like a hobo, ate **** food, had lost touch with her ...

The storm

... breakfast we get dressed in darkness.

On the way to breakfast there is a couple standing outside their room who say hello, we respond hello and they ask if we are English – yes we are and so are they. They are quite despondent because for some reason they didn’t know when they booked this accommodation that it was literally in the middle of nowhere – there is nothing around us other than mountains and the walk to the beach. They wanted to ...

City under the sea

The place we are going to today is Pula and more specifically the ruins of the ancient city of Nora. This city enjoyed the status of being the main city on Sardinia, being utilised by the Phoenicians and the Romans – it was thought to be abandoned around the 7th Century. The sea has, over time, claimed parts of the old city, so some of the ruins lay under the sea today. The ruins that can be seen are fairly substantial ...

Which way?

... stay in the cove, eat our lunch and relax for a while.

After lunch we walk back to the monastery, take a look at the map and decide to drive out on another piece of headland to a lighthouse – I like doing this because you often find wild stretches of coastline that are nice for walking. The chosen headland is Capo Carbonara and when we get there we find that part of it used to be an old quarry, so we find our way down on a dirt track to the old quarry ...

A river too far

... me yesterday that I wouldn’t like – it was spaghetti with raw fish eggs on it.

We decided that it was too late to go anywhere else now, and when we came past the monastery earlier it was completely deserted. There is a very inviting pool to take a dip in, so we make ourselves at home there for a couple of hours, reading, writing and swimming. The price of eating out here is steep to say the very least, so early evening John suggests that we put together a few ...

Not all roads lead to Rome

... a few words and order a mushroom pizza, but the waiter tells me "no pizza", which was quite odd in a pizzeria, but hey ho. Given that I didn’t understand anything else on the menu there was no point in deliberating about it, so I point to the first thing on it and decide I’ll just have a surprise – only the man tells me “you no like” and proceeds to talk to me in Italian, I just shrug my shoulders and say “Okay” ...

The Italian Job

... on their blackberry or iphone.

I kinda already took this plunge when living in Krasnoyarsk for six months, but at least there I had internet at an extreme limitation! (the limited use at my school and the high rates at the local internet café) Coming here, I was already forewarned of the extreme lack of technology, therefore it wasn’t such a shock. It’s actually quite relaxing, being in an environment almost totally free of the modern ...

Pizza, Pasta & Parents

... at Breakfast has leaked all over the back seat! We cleaned it up the best we could and headed for out hotel. It wasn't the best hotel in town but it was ok and nice and close to the beach. We ditched the bags and then went into town for some lunch. Again we managed to find a cafe with a gellateria attached and so we indulged one more time. It was a really nice day so afterwards we headed down to the beach. It was really nice, white sand, clear blue water and ...
