... which we wandered through and around, down many of the lanes and narrow streets all lined with shops. Most were still operating though some shops were for rent or sale. We found the market at Ribera. This is a fresh food market, especially with lots of fish. The building has a wonderful glass ceiling and stained glass feature walls.

Bus from Burgos to Bilbao an industrial port on the north coast about two hours away.

Have come here to see the Guggenheim Museum of modern and contemporary art designed by Frank Gehry, a Canadian. We left our bags at the hotel and made our way to the Museum. The changes to the landscape occurred about 40 Kms from Bilbao and it suddenly became heavily forested and very hilly, if not mountainous depending on ones definition. Basque is the oldest surviving language and the area is strictly Catholic. It is believed there are about 3 million Basque persons living with about .5 of a million in France and the rest in Spain.

There was also a large exhibition of Yoko Ono's works, organised on the occasion of her 80 th birthday and including significant works spanning her entire career.
