... it is recommanded to spend 2 days for the visit (unless you manage / are fine to start at 7:00 in the early morning until 18:00 (closing time) and to do it in a rush). After the park, we participated the Tibetian diner & performance party. The Tibetian people were very welcoming, funny (thx to Ya for the translation) and open-minded. The Jiuzhaigou airport is the highest in China, at an altitude of 3,300m. The taxi ride took us down 1,500m and was quite hair-raising at times but we were happy to be out of the city and in the mountains.

Fortunately the rain more or less stopped by the time we left our overnight parking spot, at the side of a hotel next door to the town walls of Songpan.

So many coaches on the road, all coming the other way to us.

... is a long drive to get there. They have been building a new road for a few years now that is set to cut the driving time into less than half, but the terrain is difficult (they have to drill dozens of tunnels through the mountains) and progress slow. It therefore took us 9 hours to drive the 430 kilometers.

Sichuan province was hit by a terrible earthquake in 2008, precisely where we drove through and we could see some of the damage ...
