... see these creatures up close. We arrived during the Panda's feeding time, which was great as this is when they are most active. As we were leaving the crowds were arriving and the Panda’s seemed to have gone into hiding – good timing for us! The Panda base has a theatre and a museum that provides information about the research and work that has been put into the breeding program.

... and Amanda were coming to the end of their trip around the world. They had gone to India and then moved on to South East Asia and then up into China. They had a few places they suggested I visit when I get to SE Asia... Amanda insisted I should go to the Panda sanctuary in Chengdu tomorrow, but I knew I would have my work cut out just getting my onward transport arranged, and wouldn't have time for any more sightseeing... Watching a load of Pandas just lazing around doesn't really float ...

It seems like all we have been doing since we arrived in China is riding around on buses and trains; since we arrived only a week and a half ago we have already been on 2 over-night trains and 3 long-haul bus rides. And now we were due to face our longest ever journey: 20 hours on the train from Kunming to Chengdu.
