Dali has big crowds of Chinese tourists, not so many Euro backpackers. It's neat to see so many local tourists. China is no longer poor. People can travel for fun and love loading up on all kinds of souvenirs. It's amazing Dali hasn't had a boom sooner. Warm climate, stunning scenery, clean air, friendly minority folks, maybe just a million here altogether now. Locals say refugees and retirees from dirty, crowded cities like Shanghai snap up prime real estate and build.
