Shenzhen - We get ripped off right out of the gate, taking an unmarked cab to our hotel, a mere 8 minute drive away by paying 300 RMB for a ride that shouldv'e cost around 30 yuan. Settle into our hotel and get a good chuckle out of the materials provided (for a minimal cost, of course) for his/her pleasure & safety alongside the free toiletries in the bathroom. Shenzhen was a small farm town 10 years ago, but not it is a bustling and very modern city at least 14 million strong and develo...

... offices that have a large area of space. The 7 foot table can sometimes be too small. The next tip to consider is the finish of the billiards pool table. Most players believe that hardwood gives one of the best looking finishes to any kind of billiards pool table. The more traditional types would include oak, cherry and walnut. Some individuals may opt for the black finish, which ...
Shenzhen, Guangdong, China shanghaiescort... up with it - it was very interesting. Apart from that it's just been a wandering about the streets and shops day.
Tonight we are off to Aqua in Tsim Sha Tsui for dinner. It is on the top floor of a tall building over there and has a great view of the Hong Kong light show (apparently). There may be a photo later on to confirm that rumour.
... s cassino. I (Gabrielle) am kinda tempted to bungy jump of the 300 meter Macau tower. I'm still kinda trying to convince dad.. who isn't budging as he promissed mom he would get me back home safe. AH MAN! Guess we'll have to wait and see what tomorrow brings. Pretty sure it won't involve doing homework! HAHA SUCKERS! Love you all and hope all is well. Keep you posted. Gab and Dad
Hong Kong, China gabbonin... streets where the Mansions was located. Right in the middle of prime real estate is the 'cheap' accommodations of Chungking Mansions. Every packpacker we have met has stayed there, so we decided to give it a try. We checked in to our itty bitty room. The width was the same length as my husband (see picture). The length of the 'room' was the size of the large twin bed and the bathroom was probably about 3 feet by 3 ...
Hong Kong, Hong Kong ssfahring... were really amazing and we could even see the planes taking off and landing at Hong Kong airport. When we got to the top of the mountain we found the Budhha and the 300 steps needed to climb up and see it (Rachel counted them!). So 300 leg aching steps later we finally made it, the Budhha was cool but the view from up there was even better! Rachel was particularly amused at the fact that there was a Starbucks up the top of the mountain ...
Hong Kong, China alandrach... to perfectly as things do in China, picking up my passport that afternoon with my residence permit allowing me multiple entries into China and buying a student-discount night train for that evening to Shenzhen. Shenzhen is one of China's special economic zones created in the 1970's, meaning it has a huge population and bustling urban economy but no history or culture. It also attracts many tourists from Hong Kong that want to get a taste of ...
Hong Kong, China stltom... he fell asleep. It was fun human cinema while I had my treat. Full of even more tea and with happy feet, I made my way back to the hotel and refreshed away the rain and sweat. Lester and I met for dinner at a Thai restaurant near the hotel and his office, and we ordered dinner and drinks while watching the opening ceremony of the Olympics, live and in the same time zone! Unfortunately it was without sound, but it was really exciting to ...
Hong Kong, China lisakpenningIt might just be that I'm more aware, or more sensitive, or it could just be coincidence, but I'm starting to get a feeling that the Chinese authorities - and certainly those in Guangdong - are getting much stricter about the presence of foreigners on the mainland. Some might say it's not before time, as I find myself increasingly embarrassed at being associated by the Chinese with some of the dregs of Western society who are instantly recognisable ...
Shenzhen, China robjstaples... light is a flat, dank grey and the smell of factory polluted air is there when I get of the bus. The omnipresent grey, yellow sky is above and the following morning from a friend's 19th floor apartment I can see little more than 500 metres. Pollution is a fact of life here, even more so than in many other parts of the world. We live with it, and rarely complain. The smog is relative, but when it's bad, it's horrible.
