A visit to one of China's biggest vanity projects

The hotel and bed last night was lovely. In fact, the whole city was unexpectedly enjoyable. We drove for about an hour this morning to our destination: the Three Gorges Dam. The Chinese, in a bid to ensure that this is seen in the best possible 'light', orchestrate every moment of the visit. Security for the visit was understandably tight and we had to leave the truck in the car park and take the obligatory tour. The ...

... Many of the paddy fields are black and there are many areas where the fields are on fire, presumably the Chinese equivalent of stubble burning. The houses are slightly different as well. They're mostly two story houses and look reasonably new - I literally cannot see an older house or building anywhere. Overall we had a really nice time in Jingmen and appreciated the break from our hectic travel schedule. I hope you like the photos!

Zhongxiang: the cave, a tomb and intense chill

... 65 km outside the city. We haggled a price, and off we went. Maybe there are tourist busses going up there usually, we couldn't tell. Still, the price seemed reasonable, as long as you don't feel like you're being scammed.

A rollercoaster ride of a drive, and two hours later we've arrived. This is the most rural of China I've experienced so far, with chickens running about everywhere and something I believe to be buffaloes on the ...
