... spending 3 hours passing through the locks we were actually coached to the other side of the locks in order to see the 3 Gorges Dam project. 1.3 million people were relocated as a result of building this dam. The planning must have been immense as every person relocated was given a new home by the government. The area around the actual dam itself is immense and has all been landscaped. A whole town was built in order to house all the people building the ...

... of 1.3 million people displaced. I'm getting used to 'Chinese tourism' which basically means being herded around on set routes, usually involves a golf buggy somewhere and always involves shops. ... is a very nice "small" city (ie only 3 million people in the metro area!), with plentiful good restaurants, parks, and local attractions. One highlight was a 10 pm foot reflexology massage with Jin's aunt and uncle - this was the real Chinese style, so they don't go easy on you!

Overall we had a really nice time in Jingmen and appreciated the break from our hectic travel schedule. I hope you like the photos!

    ... don't match the scale...

Today, we checked out of our chilly hostel, leaving our bags to take a little trip to a local Ming tomb, the Ming Xianling. The weather had improved greatly, so it was nice to just stroll about the area, which was not very exciting. According to Jules, if you have visited one Ming tomb, you don't have to fuss about seeing another one. What was interesting about this one was that a lot of the original ...
