... The young apparently are less affected since many are migrant workers in the cities but for the old leaving their farms and ancestral burial grounds it has been traumatic. On the photos you can see the line on the granite for the winter water line. Hannah, I've got some great geological images for you. Next stop Chongqing the fastest growing city in the world, Chiang Kaishek's 3rd and final wartime capital and the city most bombed by the Japanese in the war. Can't wait. M and ...

The next day ( Sunday for us) was a day of travel, departing our hotel at 6:30am for the two & 1/2 hr drive to Shanghai, then a 2 hr flight to Wuhan, followed by a 5 hr drive to Yichang. We boarded the ship about 9 pm that evening. Aboard the MS Yangtze 2, we are surrounded by tour groups from Canada, Germany, Taiwan. Indonesia and China. After a morning off, we boarded the bus for a tour of the Three Gorges Dam. This project which began in 1992 was completed in 2008 at a cost of ...

Today, we checked out of our chilly hostel, leaving our bags to take a little trip to a local Ming tomb, the Ming Xianling. The weather had improved greatly, so it was nice to just stroll about the area, which was not very exciting. According to Jules, if you have visited one Ming tomb, you don't have to fuss about seeing another one. What was interesting about this one was that a lot of the original ...
