Seven Stars Park & Rock Climbing

... they had tried it only on man-made indoor climbing walls. This one was much higher too.

They let the kids climb for "half-price", about $5/person and they said they could climb as much as they wanted. This ended up being about an hour (less for Henry), but must have been at least 7-8 climbs for the big boys. The guys belaying the boys commented that the Chinese coddled only-children kids usually only climbed once, so they were surprised that the ...

Guilin for the day

... and saw the 2nd guy having his hand inside of the lady's handbag whilst she was asleep.
I instantly leapt across and slapped him on his arm. He sheepishly withdrew his long stealing arm and looked rather embarassed. The lady woke up and didn't quite realize what had just happened. I told her in my few Chinese words that the guy was trying to steal from her.
Unfortunately I can't speak very much Chinese or I would have ...

Land 'O Lakes

... for Bill). We had a Coke and water too. Lunch came to 12 yuan ($2.10). We entered Princes City/Solitary Beauty Park 50 yuan each ($8.80). The city was built during the 5th year of the Hongwu Reign of the Ming Dynasty (1372). It was used for princes to handle political and military affairs. It resembles a miniature Forbidden City. 14 successive princes lived here. There are no dragon stone carvings here, only clouds. Dragons are only for representing Emperors ...

Looking for memories and monkeys

This morning we were up really early- 4:45 am, and I was glad to have packed the night before. We were flying to Guilin, and I was really excited to be heading back to the place that had left such an impression in my mind so many years ago... We arrived at our hotel, and I was sad to say good bye to my roommate, since I had a room to myself for this leg of the trip. Nothing looked familiar. I was a little thrown off by the fact ...

Guilin

... day of casual touring, but that's about all the strength they had in them! Guilin is known for its karst limestone peaks that lie in the surrounding area. The peaks aren't so much mountains, but are more like very steep tall hills. They surround the city and are very picturesque. First we went to Daxiangshan, or Elephant Mountain. This mountain got its name sine it looks like an elephant with its nose in the water of the Li River. Seeing the elephant might take a little imagination ...

Rice Terraces, Tian Tan Village

... I don't speak mandarin, let alone Yao, so I didn't really know, except for the gestures. One thought I had very big calves as she proceeded to bend down, and grab my calf! They really appreciate strong calves as they are constantly walking up and down. Anyways, it was beautiful area.Very peaceful. The rice is a bit more adevanced, so it was closer to being ripe, which means we had some nice golden colour and could see the terraces even better.

Don't bother with Guilin

... trunk into the river. I didn't care much about the rock, but it was cool to be on the river in one of the bamboo raft boat things the locals used. We were supposed to catch the train to Hanoi from Guilin after spending a day on the river cruise. The train sold out - as had every single train since we reached the south of China. Another bus ride loomed ahead.

An Over Night Bus?!?!

... on. As well as the small animal Olympics. Which from what I could understand just was a bunch of birds sitting on their perch. The park itself was quite beautiful and there was a nice view of the city from the top of the mountain. After that I was pretty tired still from the trip. So I headed back to the Hostel to play some pool and have a couple beer before turning in.
