    Today was a long drive day although with stops it didn't seem too bad. I tried to nap a bit as I got little sleep last night thanks to the mosquitoes that kept biting me.     *It's a bright sunny day as we leave Jiayuguan. Only 9 a.m. and we already see two separate wedding courteges - fleets of expensive cars decorated with pink and red bows. James explains that today is not only a Saturday but also the 6th day of the lunar month - all in all a pretty auspicious day to get married.

    Ok so today started withe the obligatory translation of ticket request translation. I informed mum last night in no uncertain terms that she is never allowed to ***** about my. I pad or phone being permanently attached to me as they have been a Goddess send in the wopwops where they speak a dialect that sounds like a mixture between Dutch, Arabic and Mongolian.     ... just how awesome the mineral colours are and the beauty of them. As it has been very smoggy I was hoping that the trip would not be a let down.

    I should have known it was going to be a most excellent day when i was able to skype with Penfold. Thank God for modern technology!!     We had plans to stay longer here in Zhangye however needed to get to our next stop of Jaiyuguan to submit our passports for a visa extension and needed to do this on working days - had we stayed longer in Zhangye we would have been in Jaiyuguan over a weekend and so flew through.
