        ... to me, because there is a mountain nearby in the west, so there will not be an orange sky. In addition, this mountain will place the colorful hills in the shadow, reducing their hue. My logic does not reach the masses of Chinese tourists, who are packed as sardines on the walkways and overview platforms. Jostling and pushing are not unknown here.         Got up c 0600, the General saying I snored some. Finished uploading pix to the blog and off to find brekkie. Found a pancake stall which included a fried egg, chili sauce and sundry condiments, the green chili peppers the best of the lot [8Y].

        Jason left his half of the room strewn with things: a water bottle, some ointment and a Q-tip. To take the main luggage down early meant it got put on the bottom; must be late tomorrow.

        ... Gansu province was the town of Zhangye, an ancient Silk Road town where Marco Polo supposedly spent a year living (and also where, again supposedly, Kublai Khan was born). The town itself is famous for having the largest reclining Buddha in all of China, but it is the surrounding mountains which draw the majority of travellers.

        ... and thankfully not my nose as a man was scooping pooh from the underground drains as we walked by! Ended up at a magnificent park which shares the name as one of my fave places in the world (sentimental reasons) but this place is just gorgeous and so well maintained even in Winter!         ... I managed to message some poor darling at 5am to share my pain (SORRY!!). Too many time zone to work with.

        During a coffee break the most delightful little toddler came up and just grabbed me and happily sat on my knee until mum went to take his photo. He came back a couple more times for a cuddle before we left. I managed to score myself a wicked new coat at nearly half price although shoes still allude me. Later got a scarf as well as it is brass ...
